panI disliked this short story the first time I read it years ago and I forgot I‘d read it. I still don‘t like it. It‘s quite sad though because it could be quite good—about why an old woman gave up gambling. Then the ending falls so flat. Fortunately it‘s very short so there‘s that. #letterQ #halloweenatoz

pickMika, Indian-born & English, chafes at the rules that she must keep secret she‘s a witch and she mustn‘t congregate with witches to avoid magic becoming dangerously strong. So she takes on the rules when she takes a job to teach magic to 3 youngsters in a house with non-witches (1 of whom is a very handsome antagonist to the whole idea). This is a very fun and emotional book that I highly recommend. Begs for a sequel.
pickEtty comes from a long line of vampire hunters. She‘s been training since she was a toddler. She‘s mistakenly identified a boy in her class as a vampire before so when Dimi, with all the hallmarks of a vampire comes to class she doesn‘t tell her mother for fear she is wrong. Dimi is way too kind to be a vampire. But her mom has told her all vampires are evil. Should she entrap him, or let him help save her mom when she‘s kidnapped by vampires? ⬇️
