Starting this one tonight @BarkingMadRead - here‘s my #boringkindlecover
I figure I‘ll read a short story or two in between other things throughout the month. I thought I had read this as a teen, but maybe not. We‘ll see.

Last month, I joined The Constant Reader book club for the first time. It‘s a monthly meetup at a local library where they only read Stephen King‘s books. November‘s meet-up is to discuss Night Shift. As a testament to King‘s skillful storytelling, many of the stories left me wanting more - in a good way! The story ends, and there could be more told, but King intentionally leaves the reader hanging.

Happy Halloween! 🎃 Nikolette and I hope you have a spooktacular day filled with yummy treats. We‘re about to dive back into Stephen King‘s Night Shift for a re-read.
My next audiobook. I need to add it to the Litsy database

I have two best books in January 2023, this one and Sorcery of Thorns, great YA fantasy about books. Both 4⭐️
Skeleton Crew is still my favorite of King‘s short story collections, but Night Shift is a close runner up. Tons of great stories, all suffused with a youthful vigor and anger that‘s a trademark of King‘s early work.
October 12 #ScarathlonPhotoChallenge Night This one sounds interesting. @StayCurious @Clwojick
We went to see the latest Stephen King film adaptation today. I remember reading those 12 pages so many years ago—the ending always stuck with me. Don‘t look for the movie to be like the book—it won‘t be, though I still liked it. Lester Billings did relay a few lines straight out of the book, and the therapist‘s name is the same, but that‘s it. Almost always, you know the book is better. But, go watch it!
Every time I listen to The Kingcast I end up wanting to read or reread Stephen King. So I'm rereading my very first King - I read this many times as teenager, but haven't reread in years (because I lent out my copy and never got it back). Some stories stayed with me longer, and some I'd forgotten.
King‘s first collection of short stories holds a special place in my heart. Thus far, King was purely a horror writer to me, but a few stories here really show the breadth of his imagination and writing abilities. There are plenty of delightful chills here, but The Last Rung on the Ladder” and “The Woman in the Room” are especially poignant and remind that horror can permeate everyday life without the need for things that go bump in the night. 4⭐️
At this point I don‘t even know if corn is a vegetable anymore, but let‘s go with it 😂🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽

Overall, a pretty solid collection. You can tell King was still honing his skills; no story is great, but none of them are horrible. Except The Lawnmower Man—F*** that piece of s***! Gotta be the dumbest story I‘ve ever read. 😅
Anyway… one thing King really knows how to do in these early stories is craft a final line with a punch. Standouts for me were: I Am the Doorway, The Ledge, Children of the Corn, and The Last Rung on the Ladder.
I enjoyed very much 14 of 20 of the short stories in this collection. They are topics that we have seen in oldie movies. In some short stories I used the audiobook with physical book and the narrator was great. Even when I didn‘t enjoy much some stories I still like how Mr. King develop the characters, so many psychological aspects and how well he describe those scenes. Always critic in everything related with memorial services. 4⭐️
It's so hard to review a Stephen King collection in so few words. There's so much I could say about so many stories. The "short" of it is, anytime you get into a short story collection from The Master of Horror, you're in for a varied rollercoaster ride that you'll still find yourself thinking about for days to come. Standouts: I Am the Doorway, The Mangler, Battleground, The Ledge, Quitters, Inc., and Children of the Corn. 5/5
I read a TON of Stephen King as a young adult and have revisited this short story collection several times. The stories that have stuck with me are “Graveyard Shift,” “I Am The Doorway,” and “Children of the Corn.” #scarathlondailyprompts #night #teamslaughter
Tagged book wasn‘t planned on being part of #20in4. Since I had Thursday off I figured I do some warm up reading aaaaand I had a deja book moment. Apparently I read this one before? I don‘t recall much of this book except Strawberry Spring, Jerusalem‘s Lot, Last Rung on the Ladder, and of course Children of the Corn.
I‘m glad I re-read this one. I can see connections to some of his other works (Salem‘s Lot for one). With my attention span, I do better with short stories sometimes. I‘m working my way through King‘s works - according to my list from #losersclub, The Stand is next. Not such a short story, that one…
I normally don‘t enjoy short story collections, but this one is exceptional. I enjoyed every one of these stories. I just kept thinking to myself “Man, this guy can write!” It really is amazing how he can create interesting characters and plots full of suspense and dread that can be read in 10 minutes. I think my favorite story is “I am a Doorway.”
Classic King. I usually hate short stories, but I absolutely loved this one.

Not as cohesive or strong overall as some of King‘s other short story collections, but there are some great stories in here. Quitter‘s, Inc. is one of my favorites. #horror
I normally don‘t read short stories. I always find them too… short. But I have been watching Chapelwaite and I have never read Jerusalem‘s Lot. So fixing that with today‘s #bookmail

Great book to pick up at anytime. Short stories are well done.

Some things I own, collect, like.
Thank you @wanderinglynn
As a fan of King, I'm still catching up on his full library. This was a good one of short stories. Very enjoyable and includes some of his classics like Children of the Corn.
Who would've thought a Stephen King book could look so "cute"?! I wanted to mark off the start of each story so I could better track my progress and these where the ONLY page tabs I had. ?♀️?
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/04/17/night-shift-by-stephen-king/
This was a collection of 20 short stories from the master story teller himself. I loved each story as much as the last. Each was unique and terrifying in their own rights, it was hard to pick a favorite. A must read for all King fans or a great place to start if you have never read his work.
Book Spin Pick: Night Shift by Stephen King. Yes!!! A collection of short stories from my favorite author! Something to pull me out of this slump of books I just have not been connecting with. King never fails to disappoint. Hopefully I can get back on a 4/5 ⭐ streak after this one.
I‘ve never loved a collection of short stories this much. Perfect lengths for reading in the car while between errands, in waiting rooms, or for a few minutes with my coffee in the morning. My favorites were: Graveyard Shift, The Mangler, Trucks, The Ledge, and The Lawnmower Man. Sidenote: there are so many murderous machines in this collection!!
Up next in my #readingStephenKing project: THE STAND!!
I did not expect to enjoy this one much at all because I tend to be bored with short story collections. However, I think these stories are awesome. So fun to read. I‘m about half thru. So far, my favorites are The Mangler (about the killer laundry ironing/folding machine) and Graveyard Shift (about the giant blind and legless rats).

Up next in my #readingStephenKing project!! I tend to read short story collections a little more slowly, one at a time. So this one may take a little longer for me to finish. But I‘m very excited to get started!!
This is a great collection of short stories. The most famous story of course being Children of the Corn. But all of these are scary in their own way- from the bizarre to the downright terrifying. A great place to start with Stephen King if you're looking to get a taste of his work. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
#stephenkinglonghaul
Enjoying some scary stories while watching the House of Representatives impeach the POTUS for the second time.
I‘m currently reading “Graveyard Shift”. Along with it and the marsh rat scene in another book (tagged in spoiler below) I read this year, I can say, without a doubt, that I don‘t like rats. 😳 🤢 I probably already knew this, but it‘s definitely confirmed now.
🐀 = not cute
I think this is the only book I own that #startswithn. More of an October book though ;) #forevernovember
