•This is one of those books that either works for you or doesn‘t. It‘s obvious where I fall on this spectrum. I was completely adrift; for me, the writing was too disjointed, the narration too oddly done, and overall, it felt like there wasn‘t really a story here. Was it scary? I have no f-ing clue.
I arrived at my choice for #weirdwords after quite the rabbit hole: first reading a mention of an on-set fatality during the shooting of the Twilight Zone movie led to the morbid Wikipedia page which somehow led me to medieval torture methods which led to Latin phrase Poena cullei (Penalty of the sack). As wikipedia states, “The punishment consisted of being sewn up in a leather sack, with an assortment of live animals including a dog, snake...“
Started this one yesterday and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I'm a big fan of slasher flicks so to read a book which is basically a slasher flick sounded right up my alley. Gonna give it a few more chapters then I may have to dnf it
Not for book group or black history month, but he's local and damn it's good! Dolly Cat & I were up late reading... #creepy #great #currentread
I‘ve only thumbed through it so far. The concept appeals to me. It has plenty of psychological thrillers such as Hard Candy and The Piano Teacher. Films I wouldn‘t classify as horror. Which I usually prefer. Hopefully plenty of Isabelle Adjani.
I love horror movies, I always have. I‘ll choose the horror genre over others every time. This book was a new perspective, a Black lens I needed to look through. This book goes deeper than what we all know: the Black character dies first, or is sacrificed in other ways—not necessarily a physical death. Cinema still has a long way to go, and we must continue to demand it do better. This looks like inclusion, representation, ending racist⬇️
Number 4: Year of the VHS cover for me 📼 writing style was perfect, genuinely eerie. Ending 10/10. 🩸

If you‘ve ever wondered what it‘s like behind the scenes of a horror movie, but also wondered what it would be like for the horror to turn real, this is for you! It‘s a little campy and super unrealistic but it‘s a lot of fun (if blood and gore is fun for you like it is for me 😝). Interesting take on a horror story! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Happy Halloween! We were the only ones who “dressed up” at work today. 😂 Not sure if I count, I only put Mouse ears on. 🤷🏻♀️🤪
