Another superb entry in the In Death series! Eve confronts parts of her past and has to prove her bff‘s innocence. I laughed out loud in a couple of parts, and I‘m enjoying how much Eve and even Roarke have grown so far. Cannot wait to see what is in store for them next. #InDeathLongReadalong

So this was a side book from the beginning of the series… and there‘s more of them I‘m going through now but I liked this even though it was a short book

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Mavis gets fired, poor thing and Eve‘s house is taken over by fashionable characters for a night as they target her hair and wardrobe before the wedding.

Eve has a terrible nightmare/memory and finally relives what happened on that final fateful night.

Peabody gets closer to Casto, even though he has shown a bit of flirty interest in Eve.
Eve finds her unknown - the immortal flower -deadly, beautiful and illegal⬇️

StayCurious They nail down Redford - he was planning to make the immortal drug and owned a specimen of the flower. But did he kill Pandora over a deal gone sour? 4d
ShananigansReads I think Mavis will be okay, but I cannot imagine the nonsense going on at Roarke's house. They must be driving Summerset crazy. Eve's recovered memories caught me off guard for some reason. I'm glad she did what she did, that bastard deserved worse. I do not trust Casto, but I never trust new characters.

Librarybelle I‘m glad Eve recovered her memory…she can now begin the slow process of healing. How horrifying what she lived through as a child! Overall, I am anxious to finish. Another great addition to the series. 4d
LiseWorks We are starting to see a little of Peabody 's Character. It is sad that Mavis lost her job. Just goes to show how the employer thought of her. 4d
MrsV I figured that was going to be the way in regards to Eve‘s past. If she wasn‘t the one, Roarke definitely would. I‘m also glad it brought a little bit more understanding with Somerset, maybe that stick won‘t be so far up his butt now with her. 4d
TheAromaofBooks I'm really enjoying this one. Like ShananigansReads I'm not sure if I trust Casto, mainly because he seems to be flirting shamelessly with both Eve and Peabody so 😑 A lot of emotions in this week's chapters, but it feels like maybe Eve can finally start to move forward. I loved how supportive everyone was for her. Side note, I think five chapters a week is a great pace for this buddy read!! 4d

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.6-10: - we finally learn why Roarke keeps Summerset around and it‘s a sad story. I liked catching a glimpse into Roarke‘s past.
At least Mavis is smart enough to have faith in Eve and not blame her for having to arrest her. Hopefully that‘ll hold. ⬇️

StayCurious The illegals cops are eager to make a bust while Eve is looking for the truth. Can she work side by side with Casto? Can she trust him?
More of Eve‘s past is surfacing but she‘s smart enough to talk to Mira about it. Eve knows her two homicides are linked by the mysterious drug. But how to prove it was the same killer and not Mavis?

willaful Summerset's past is surprising; he seems so haughty. 2w

CatLass007 @willaful Remember that Summerset was a con man. Con men play a role and this is the role he‘s adopted. 2w
CatLass007 I can‘t believe Eve finally talked to Mira. Yay Eve. Evidence that personal growth is achieved. (edited) 2w
LiseWorks How come Casto showed up? I always wonder whe other departments show up on cases 2w
Librarybelle It was good to read a little bit about Roarke‘s past and Eve‘s visit to Mira. 2w
willaful @CatLass007 good point! 2w
TheAromaofBooks I'm really enjoying getting to know these characters better as they reveal more about themselves and their pasts. Even random little things like Eve has never been off-planet and seems a bit terrified of doing so (I would, too!). While I do believe in Eve's integrity, it still seems weird to me that she would be allowed to continue running as primary on a case where she has such a glaring personal connection. 2w
StayCurious @TheAromaofBooks it‘s almost as if Whitney wants to make up for what happened in the last book 2w

A couple weeks behind the #InDeathLongReadalong , but I wanted to finish last month‘s book this weekend!

I really like watching Eve become more comfortable with her feelings and being with Roarke. He definitely has issues too, but it seems like they balance each other well. Good mystery with lots of suspense and a nail biting conclusion. I‘m really enjoying this series so far. On to book 3!

LiseWorks Oh so glad you liked it. Book 3 is even better 😍 2w

I'm a little behind in posting this. This 2nd in the series was actually better than the 1st. And og course because this one was also written in the 90's there are a few editions. So more bi go's spots for me. I'm still working on January #ISPYBINGOJANUARY. A feather is a writing tool even if, in this case, it wasn't used for that. The edition I read has a car on it, which in the books do fly, taking as a plane for #ISpyBingoFebruary. #SeriesLove24

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 2 was all about the media and powerful women being silenced. But one woman stands for them and ultimately catches the killer. I enjoyed this book better than the first - I liked seeing Eve accept aspects of her romance with Roarke and start to acknowledge aspects of her past. A couple of questions or conversation starters:⬇️.

StayCurious let‘s talk a bit about why on earth Summerset hates Eve so much and why we think Roarke puts up with him (for those who don‘t know). 1mo
StayCurious Did you guess who the killer was early on or did Roberts do a good job with the Angelini brood leading us astray? 1mo
StayCurious Do you think Eve should confront her past or is it best left to her foggy memories? 1mo
See All 19 Comments
StayCurious Do you think Roarke is moving too quickly in their romance or is he just trying to lock Eve down so to speak? 1mo
StayCurious Did Eve display too much arrogance by putting herself as bait which ultimately lead to Kirskey‘s death? 1mo
CatLass007 I have a feeling that Roarke and Summerset share a colorful history. What kind of history, I don‘t have any theories. I loved that Eve invited her best friend over to hang out and Summerset seemed completely flummoxed. 1mo
CatLass007 I did not guess who the killer was. I thought the gambling fiancé was probably the culprit. 1mo
CatLass007 Eve is having nightmares about a past that she denies remembering. Those kinds of memories don‘t stay hidden forever. The harder she tries to suppress those memories the more painful the final reveal will be. They‘re going to come back and bite her in the ass eventually. Allowing a therapist to help her uncover her past in a controlled way would be a lot less traumatic. (edited) 1mo
CatLass007 In the first book, I didn‘t like Roarke at all. He seemed like a manipulative, domineering, control freak. And he manhandled her. I liked him better in this book. I‘d still be pissed that he emptied out Eve‘s apartment and moved it into his mansion had I been in her shoes. I think it was a statement to Eve that he wanted her to be comfortable but on his terms. I think it was a statement to Summerset also. But Roarke is not a patient man. (cont)⬇️ (edited) 1mo
CatLass007 (cont) I just can‘t imagine how she could allow him to be so presumptuous. I did appreciate how Roarke divested himself of any enterprises that might have shown even a hint of being outside the law. (edited) 1mo
CatLass007 I see Eve and Roarke as being alike in certain ways. Yes it was arrogant. Eve is the kind of person who has the attitude of “if you want something done right, do it yourself.” So is Roarke. Eve wants to be in control of any situation in which she finds herself. She‘s as much of a control freak as Roarke. (edited) 1mo
ShananigansReads @StayCurious I‘m sure Mavis‘ visit did not help. 😂😂😂 1mo
ShananigansReads @StayCurious he is definitely moving fast but that‘s him. At least when it comes to Eve he‘s all gas and no brakes. 1mo
CatLass007 @ShananigansReads I kind of think Mavis‘s visit did help. It allowed Eve and the reader see a crack in Summerset‘s facade. 1mo
willaful I did guess, but I'm not sure if that's because I've read it before or because it reminds me of another mystery with a similar motive.

@CatLass007 Definitely agree it's not safe to keep those memories buried, especially when they cause nightmares and flashbacks... I also agree Roarke is more likable in this one. .

@ShananiganReads I think the “all gas“ really works for them. She's so guarded.
1mo
CatLass007 @ShananigansReads @willaful I just got off the phone with a friend who I was telling about Eve Dallas. I said she was having flashbacks and then I walked it back a bit and said I‘m not sure I‘d call them flashbacks. My friend suggested the term “intrusive memories,” and I like that term. 1mo
LiseWorks I loved the part when Eve brought Mavis to the house. I don't think Summersette knew what to make of the fact that Eve's best friend is so loud in appearance, etc. While she herself is not. 4w
TheAromaofBooks I did guess, but not until close to the reveal. I thought the herrings were pretty well placed. Overall, I liked this one a lot better than the first book. The rhythm was better. Roarke is still kind of pushy, but I think his motives are sincere, so I give him some leeway haha 4w
