Wuthering Heights | Bronte Emily
post image

Visited Haworth a few days ago to finally see the moors and the Bronte parsonage. It was better than I could have hoped! (The Bronte museum was unfortunately closed - but that had the benefit of making the town nice and quiet!) We did a tour of the area with a Bronte expert and he read some beautiful excerpts to us as we stood in the relevant places 😍

kspenmoll How atmospheric! 2w
squirrelbrain Amazing! My Dad lived in Haworth for a while, and it‘s not much more than an hour from where I live! 2w
Ruthiella Those moors look as bleak as I imagined them when reading Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. 2w

I have the very unusual pleasure of a whole day to myself at the camper. What am I to do??? 😲 I have some dark, seasonally appropriate reads for starters.

44F degrees at 9 am - I‘m not going out until it hits at least 55F.

Cathythoughts Enjoy. I‘m sure you‘ll think of something to do 😁 3mo
Ruthiella Enjoy your peace and quiet. 😌 3mo

Just saw this trailer at the movies… 😳🍿 Looks extra steamy!

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I haven‘t seen the trailer yet but I‘m really looking forward to it. Watching Saltburn at the cinema was an experience! 3mo
Karisa @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Oooh, I heard Saltburn was good. Might need to find it on streaming 😊 3mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Karisa, my favourite part of it was hearing people realise what was happening/about to happen at slightly different times. 3mo
nanuska_153 I read an interview with the director and she was so dismissive about the critics for not being faithful to the book, she made a comment like: "wait until they see the moors don't even feature in the movie". Honestly, it's a pass for me, films are adaptations and not always faithful, but I won't give my time to someone that doesn't have respect for the book 3mo
Karisa @nanuska_153 I was wondering how close it would be to the original. I didn‘t realize it was Wuthering Heights until the very end of the movie trailer. It looked like more of an Outlander type movie. Wait, what…Wuthering Heights without a moor?! Maybe they‘ll call them Cathy and Cliff 😂 3mo

I‘m rereading Wuthering Heights to gear up for the 20th anniversary of Twilight next month. Also reading Sunrise of the Reaping and tossing in a lighthearted sweet romcom too for balance. Runaway Bride and Prejudice is by one of my fav sweet romance authors, Emma St. Clair.

I‘m making progress in my IRL bookclub‘s September pick, and it‘s actually pretty good! Definitely not one I would‘ve picked up otherwise 😊 I did have to print off a character list since names are just thrown out all Willy-Nilly 🤣 (Green tabs on top are for quotes, the tabs down the side are my reading chunks so I don‘t get overwhelmed 😆)

I picked up this book from the LFL a while ago, forgot about it, found it again during a bookcase cleanout, and read it in the midst of cleaning the bathroom. Cute illustrations, interesting twists on known stories, and several tales of trickery.

This is apparently part of a series, but I‘m skeptical that the author‘s name is really hole in one. 😆

Jari-chan Reading is the best way of cleaning 😁😁 7mo
Susanita @Jari-chan Yes! Scrub the tub, read a chapter, clean the sink, read a chapter, etc. 😀 7mo

Two come to mind:

Wuthering Heights and A Tale of Two Cities.

I just didn't appreciate them the first time. Too immature, I guess. I was in high school. I tried again when I was a young mother. Still, no. It was in my mid 40s when I finally understood the appeal.

BookmarkTavern Wuthering is one of those I need to revisit. I was also in high school when I first read it. Thanks for posting! 11mo
BkClubCare I have a reading challenge with a category of “book that scares you”. I am thinking of listening to Wuthering Hts. 🫣 11mo
Butterfinger @BkClubCare I don't think it's scary. It is one of the earliest Gothic atmospheric books. Daphne du Maurier is scarier. She wrote the classic The Birds. 11mo
BkClubCare Oh, I don‘t mean scary like “BOO!” — I mean, that I don‘t know what my reaction will be. Sorry, maybe that doesn‘t make any sense. 11mo
Butterfinger @BkClubCare makes perfect sense. 11mo
