One day when the Moomins wake up everything is grey, then the sky changes color. Moomin and Sniff are sent on an adventure to the observatory to look at the stars.

We meet several characters for the first time here; Snorkmaiden, the Muskrat and Snufkin

"It is far from easy to comfort a Fillyjonk who is stricken with panic and doesn't know why."

- The Fillyjonk Who Believed in Disasters

willaful I'm stuck a Fillyjonk... 2w
quietlycuriouskate Is this the story with the line, "Oh my beautiful disaster; you're here at last!" (or words to that effect)? 2w
Bookwomble @quietlycuriouskate Yes 😊 Fillyjonk has been waiting in anxiety for a catastrophe to occur, and when it finally does it actually comes as a relief, and allows her to break out of her tramelled life and opens up new possibilities of living authentically for her. I love Tove's psychological depth, whether she's writing for children or adults. 2w

Well, I see from a previous post that seven years ago when I bought this book, it was my intention to read it "soon"! Better late... ⏳?

Moominpappa's Memoirs | Tove Jansson

Another great installment! I read this in Matt Berry‘s voice, who is the voice actor for Moominpappa in the 2019 show. Moominpappa might not be the most truthful story teller (and a little full of himself) but he is good at it! Excited for Moominsummer Madness next ☀️

The coziest book, but with a touch of sharpness too.

IriDas Definitely. 😊 1mo

The first Moomin book that came out for the first time 80yrs ago. I think it‘s interesting that the original title doesn‘t mention Moomins, but calls them tiny trolls. Apparently the publisher wanted people to know what they was

In this first story Moomin and his mom are on a journey to find a place to live before the winter and looking for dad. In their way they meet several different creatures and has quite the adventure in a 50p book

AnnCrystal Beautiful coverart 🤩📚💝. 1mo

The moomin display at B&N piqued my curiosity and I went ahead and grabbed some the Moomin series from the library. I read Moominland Midwinter to match the storm outside, but now I‘m following the order of the series. It‘s very charming, but the show Moominvalley (2019) really brought the characters to life for me. I enjoyed some of the 90s episodes too. I was really excited to learn Jansson was queer and that Moomin and Snufkin are queer-coded.

sarahbarnes I love Jansson‘s novels and have always wanted to read some of these books, too. 1mo
RosePressedPages I did hear Jansson wrote other adult novels! I‘m excited to try her work outside of Moomin 1mo
