Horror, Crime Mystery and Romantasy. That's quite a mix for this weekend. 😀

An ok book - but a lot of this authors books are just plain weird 🤨🧐 I was hoping for… more 😔

I loved this! I‘m a huge Josh Malerman fan and I think I definitely liked this one as much as Bird Box and Malorie. The 8yr old protagonist Bela is a great narrator. She‘s extremely perceptive about what‘s happening even as her young age means she doesn‘t always understand. This is a super creepy story, with a lot to say about the weight of secrets and how we can‘t run from them. A slow burn, then very intense! With an open ending.

This was just all over the place and inconsistent. I could go the rest of my life without hearing/seeing “other mommy” ever again and it would not be enough.

Ok I‘ve officially read two of Malermans books and I disliked both. I can now say I am not a fan of his writing style. This story is told from a child‘s perspective and gets annoying because it‘s repetitive, sometimes you don‘t know if she‘s thinking something or saying it out loud, and best of all the ending sucks. I stepped away from this book thinking what the hell did I just read? The only bonus was it was a quick read. 👎🏼

Ruthiella Fair enough! He‘s not for you. It‘s nice to know of books you are NOT going to read, if you know what I mean. 2mo
Bec_lectic @Ruthiella it does help! I had such high hopes because I love horror novels and wanted to give him another chance after reading Daphne but I just can‘t get into his writing style 😕 2mo
marleed I‘m always to drawn to read on Litsy when someone dislikes a book I liked. It has me rethinking the book which in turn helps me remember some details in my own reading experience. … I can go to my IRL bookclub thinking I liked the month‘s selection. Then some members speak to why they so passionately disliked the book, and then I‘m like - yeah, what she said. Such a fickle reader am I! 2mo
Bec_lectic @marleed so true! It‘s amazing sometimes how ones opinion or thoughts can so easily change yours! 2mo

This was so good. So creepy. Tons of twists. I couldn‘t put it down when I picked it up. I love this author so much. She really knows how to take something spooky and make it real and feel like it could actually happen. Definitely a must read if you enjoy horror and thrillers. Didn‘t see the ending coming at all.

Happy Halloween Eve! 🧡🎃🧡

I'm starting this today, and I'm really really excited about it! I love all of Josh Malerman's other books, so I have high hopes for this one! Apparently, two of my co-workers couldn't finish this because they thought it was too scary! 😱

Clare-Dragonfly Ooh! That‘s a recommendation if I ever heard one! 😆 3mo
Branwen @Clare-Dragonfly Exactly! After hearing that I only wanted to read it more! 🤣😂 Also, I finished it today and it was ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING! 3mo
