My mom bought me this book that she read in the 80s. It helped her overcome the damaging parenting that she went through, particularly as a kid of an alcoholic. Reading this book with that context in mind made me grateful she broke the cycle of not treating you children as human beings and the normalizing of abusive behaviour as 'good parenting.' I wouldn't recommend this book in any other circumstance other than the one I read it under, though!

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

Very eye-opening examination of codependency and the reasons why people develop this almost addiction to things, behaviors and other people, as a result of unsatisfied emotional needs and which affects so many of us. The book also recommends a recovery plan for those who intend to break the cycle and escape the labyrinth of codependency.

Interesting second memoir from Burroughs. I read running with scissors years ago, but don‘t remember it very well. This one was a good. His style is easy to read and it is interesting. It chronicles his ups and downs in his recovery from alcohol and drugs. I ordered three more of his more recent books.

Scochrane26 I‘ve always liked this one better than Running with Scissors. Think it helps people understand addiction & treatment, even though it‘s an older book now. Have you read his bro‘s book—Look Me In The Eye? It‘s really interesting. 5mo
CRR @Scochrane26 I liked this one too. I have read his brother‘s book years ago—I‘d forgotten about it. I liked it too. 5mo

Book #86
4/5
This memoir offers an in-depth account of a father's experience with his son's addiction. Sheff did a fantastic job of combining and balancing personal experience with statistical and objective research about drugs, parenting, interventions, and recovery, to name a few.

My cousin recommended this book to me after we watched “Beautiful Boy” on Prime.

CBee It‘s a good one - painful, but good. The book “Beautiful Boy” is also really powerful 💚 8mo
Booksandtea23 @CBee it seems really interesting. I grew up reading a lot of books by Ellen Hopkins so it‘s interesting to read someone‘s first hand experience and not a work of fiction. 8mo
CBee @Paristhesavvyreader I haven‘t read anything by Hopkins, but her books do look interesting! 8mo

Coreyography: A Memoir | Corey Feldman

I think people forget how good of an actor Feldman can be. Watch Stand by Me; his performance is masterful. But the man has gone through some things and his career has suffered for it. I was surprised by the brutal honesty on display here. I‘ve seen criticism that he comes off egotistical; not sure I agree, but it does seem like he‘s painting himself a certain way.

His narration is solid, and I enjoyed this book despite the tough subject matter.

Eggs I loved his acting in Stand by Me. I think I‘ll take a listen 🎧 👂🏻 8mo
