I was a big fan of Full House growing up although not a big fan of the character Stephanie Tanner, I still wanted to see what led to her downfall after coming from one of the most wholesome shows on TV. It was a fast read, nothing truly eye opening. Just another childhood star falling into a downward spiral. A few interesting tidbits on Full House were revealed but other than that it was kind of a lackluster story.
Another graphic memoir hit! This time from comic Julia Wertz who documents her life in NYC as a recovering alcoholic and self proclaimed “weirdo”. She‘s super relatable (as a fellow weirdo) with the difficult social interactions and I loved her “urban exploring” (investigating abandoned buildings) adventures! Wertz also describes the horrible dating scene and some close friendship. I really enjoyed this read..though parts were sad it was hopeful.
I really, really enjoyed and recommend this book. It‘s not just about substance addiction but how we can all be addicted to something- success, control, affection. I think anyone can get something from this book 🙏
This was…okay. I was really enjoying the physical version a lot! Around 20% in, I switched to audio ever-so-briefly so I could run errands and keep on reading…and the narrator‘s inflections kind of ruined it for me. I don‘t remember that ever happening before! What a bummer. Even though I easily read 80% with my peepers, I couldn‘t unhear the disappointing audio which had set an entirely different tone. *sigh* ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Being a few years removed from my own journey through the beginning of #recovery, reading her story was emotional and *nostalgic* at times. Her trigger warning is appropriate, not because of numbers or descriptions, but because of the emotions she is capable of evoking. Her writing is powerful, transparent, and her perspective on her experience in the Harry Potter films is very interesting, although a bit sad for her as well. #mentalhealth
I enjoyed every page of this book. The author cleverly creates a twelve-step program for professional assassins who want to leave that soul-crushing life. Our protagonist, Mark, known in his past life as the Pale Horse and approaching his one-year anniversary, finds himself back in and craving his old life. As an alcoholic in recovery myself, I found the program details accurate, and a fascinating spin on an important lifeline. A great read!
This month‘s spiritual direction read. I‘m way more into it than I thought I would be. We all can be addicted to something- control, success, relationships- and the author makes a great case for this.
I liked The Paradox Hotel, so gave this a try.
Former Seal turned assassin has retired from service and been 'sober' for nearly a year when he's attacked and his friends' lives are being threatened. Now his sobriety is in danger, because he might not be able to not kill to get out of this mess.
It reminded me of R.E.D. and The Professional. It had a few unexpected twists and good action. First person I'll recommend it to is my son.

The fake memoir that pissed off Oprah Winfrey. 😱
