Pickpick

A tough read. As a parent, it has an extra, particularly terrifying aspect - this awful thing happening to a 'good' boy from a privileged background suggests no child is safe - MY child isn't safe! - from this nefarious plague. I mean, there's so much you can do to prevent it from happening, but still, you can't prevent it from happening! The father's helplessness, despair & desperation are heartbreaking, his unending hope, an inspiration.

Late night start for this one.

ncsufoxes I read this one years ago, good but so sad. His son‘s book, Tweak, is a great companion piece. It‘s a tough read, especially when he describes what‘s going on with him & the drugs he‘s doing. 3w

Appreciated listening to this inspiring memoir of Ly Tran's difficult childhood, academic expectations, mental health challenges, and ultimate #recovery. #indeliblemoments @eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

#Recovery

I instantly remembered this idiot that wrote a whole story about recovering from addiction and even went on Oprah to promote it, only to find out it was all lies!!!!

marleed I read this book at a time when someone close to me was crawling on the rock bottom floor of addiction. My feelings about this book were visceral and I was equally gutted when soon after it was discovered as a ruse. Much later I had some sympathy for Frey. He was writing though addiction having no idea of Oprah or a best seller. Publishers opted to market his work as a memoir vs fiction inspired by addiction. The whole thing was weird. 4mo
fredamans @marleed I read it and it rang deep in me. I was an addict. It felt like such a distrust to learn he lied. I lost the faith in trusting anyone to help me through it. Thankfully I am almost 22 years sober, but it wasn't an easy road to get there. 4mo
marleed @fredamans oh my gosh, congratulations on your road to recovery. I vividly recall my feelings about the ruse of this book and I was on the sidelines helplessly watching the struggle. I can‘t even imagine what that ruse would have felt like for you looking to this book as a an hand to pull you through that horrific bottom. I am so glad you found your way to the other side. 4mo
