Colin Jost seems like a very nice guy. I wasn't sure about his humor at first, knowing nothing about him except his Weekend Update skits on SNL. He won me over quickly with his sly, self deprecating sense of humor. 4 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm not sure serial killer devotees will enjoy this book, the title is misleading. Yes the Mad Butcher case is part of the book, but only a small part. More of it is about Ness's efforts to clean up Cleveland's criminal elements, and update the police force. Ness was way before his time, introducing many elements that are now part of every day policemen/women lives. 4👮‍♂️👮‍♂️👮‍♂️👮‍♂️

I finished this last night, but I wanted to sleep on it before posting. I could write a whole page on this amazing book, Kolbert has again knocked it out of the park. I feel optimistic, yet I'm angry too at man's arrogance and hubris. We can't "game" nature, we can't tech a shortcut to fixing the problem. I think the line that hit home for me was, the choice isn't between the way things were and the way things are now, the choice is between ⬇️⬇️

RamsFan1963 how things are now and how they could be in the future. There's no turning back the clock to some remembered idyllic past. Definitely a 5 🌟 read that I would recommend to everyone concerned about our future on this planet. 4y
kimmypete1 Sounds very intriguing! 4y

It's hard to believe this was published one year before the better known meteor novel, Lucifer's Hammer. While the Niven/Pournelle novel was like an Irwin Allen disaster movie, this was much smaller, following a smaller group of people trying to survive a killer meteor storm. It's so quaint and "English" it feels like something written in the 1950s. 3 ??? 1/2

A little bit dated, having been written before the rise of the internet and social media, but still relevant in the discussion of how our culture has evolved (devolved?) from a print society to a visual one, where everything (religion, politics, sports, news, history) is packaged for entertainment value. 3 📺📺📺 1/2

If you believe in fate or destiny this might not be for you. However, if you believe, as I do, that history (and life) is a messy series of chance, luck (good & bad), coincidence and plain stupidity, then I think you'll find this compendium of unusual facts to be most enjoyable. Who knew a high school diploma could have averted WWII?!? 4 🍀🍀🍀🍀

This wavered between a pick and so-so, but I'm feeling generous so I'll give it a low pick. Its gritty urban fantasy, although the first story seemed more post-apocalyptic dystopian fiction. I don't believe I'd be interested in following the series any further. 3 🧝‍♂️🧝‍♂️🧝‍♂️

An entertaining basic primer into Nordic mythology, religions, culture and history. Not a lot of depth, but a good starting point for anyone interested in exploring the northern cultures. 3 🇮🇸 🇮🇸 🇮🇸

Can someone really write a whole book about why cats always land on their feet? The answer is yes, but it requires a lot of detours, including the history of photography, animal studies in space science and several feuds between scientists. By the end, I had the answer but I wasn't sure I cared anymore. 3 🐈🐈🐈

MittenGirlPeach Speaking of cats, my quarterback is coming your way; sniff. Treat him well; I‘ll be rooting for him always! 4y
RamsFan1963 @MittenGirlPeach I'm not sure who you mean. Cats? Lions or Panthers? I'd love to have Stafford with the Rams but I thought he was going to the 49ers. 4y
MittenGirlPeach @RamsFan1963 I‘m a Lions fan; (Mitten = Michigan!), and Stafford (sob) is a Ram! Deal was announced last night. You‘ll love him; he‘s such a great guy and terrific QB. Apparently the Rams were his first choice, so Sheila Ford wanted the deal done for him, which I‘m pleased about. We got quite the haul overall, so I think it should work for everyone! 4y
