Cress in the first book of the Lunar Chronicles slept on a satellite; until she was rescued by Thorn! 🥰

Cinfhen Space pirates??!?!!?!! 5y
CrowCAH @Cinfhen not really. Thorn is a good guy. 5y

I am not familiar with this song but when I read #SleepingSatellite was about the Apollo missions of the 1960s & the moon & sung by a woman, these three titles came to mind. I shelved them all after watching The Astronaut Wives Club tv series & Hidden Figures movie but can‘t seem to get around to finishing all the books. 📚📚📚😬🛰🌚🚀🛸📚📚📚📚

squirrelbrain I read Hidden Figures this year and unfortunately it was a bit dry.... Great post! 😁 5y
Cinfhen Another stellar post🙌🏻❣️🎉✨ 5y

#BookMail #WelcomeHomeCheer Thank you so much @Kalalalatja 💕💕💕💕what a lovely surprise to come home to 😁After two long but uneventful flights, followed by a luggage snafu in Israel, I found myself in a deep #SleepingSatellite today. Just waking up to an empty fridge and a huge amount of unpacking and organizing to deal with. Can‘t wait to settle in with my new books📚 #AyUpAugust

I feel like I read this, though I don‘t have it recorded as read on LibraryThing; I may have read another by Dobson... In any case, I would have read this nearly 20 yeas ago, so a reread would be in order!

Dobson writes a mystery series set in academia with a English professor as an amateur sleuth. The titles in this series are based on the classics, hence this one referencing sleep and Emily Dickinson. #SleepingSatellite #ayupaugust

Crazeedi I've never hear of this series! Sounds like it might be worth checking out 5y
squirrelbrain It does sound good doesn‘t it @crazeedi?! 5y

This book is gorgeous so far. I remember looking for Halley‘s Comet and the subsequent Challenger explosion when I was in elementary school as well. My experiences of those two events were very similar to Nedda‘s, except she was so close to the shuttle launch, her school shook! #sleepingsatellite #ayupaugust

Crazeedi Sounds very good! 5y
Megabooks @Crazeedi It is so far. The older I‘ve gotten, the more I like this type of sci-fi. Things that have a basis in current times/reality, but twist it or move to the near future. (This, Dark Matter, The Martian, etc.) 5y
squirrelbrain I distinctly remember watching Challenger on Newsround, which was a UK news programme for kids. Sounds like a good book.... 5y

Crazeedi @Megabooks I've not really read much sci fi, I should push my boundaries!🤔 5y
Megabooks @squirrelbrain I‘m really enjoying it! 5y
Megabooks @Crazeedi I find having some grounding in a world I understand, makes it more enjoyable for me. I liked more “typical” sci-fi/fantasy in my youth, but my preferences have changed over the years. 5y
Scochrane26 I read this for book club in July & really liked it. First book I‘ve read that has Challenger in it, which was an important event in my childhood, too. Pushed my boundaries because of sci-fi but loved the relationships and themes. Hope you like the rest of it! 5y
Crazeedi @Megabooks that sounds about right, I dont know if I want to jump in to alternative realities from the get go. A little fantasy, time travel etc is good, but nothing too wacky. I'm too old for trying to keep everything straight and figure everything out. Lol 5y

Apparently the song #sleepingsatellite is about man‘s exploration to space, the moon, in particular, as it was written at the 20th anniversary of the first manned landing on the moon.

The book follows 3 members of a post-Civil War gun club who design and build a ‘canon‘ and ride a spaceship fired from it all the way to the moon. Haven‘t read it.. it‘s considered one of the most scientifically accurate of the early Moon voyages! #ayupaugust

squirrelbrain Sounds intriguing! 🚀 5y

batsy I remember the movie but didn't watch it! Interesting; didn't know it was a book. 5y
DGRachel @TrishB @Cathythoughts @batsy @squirrelbrain @erzascarletbookgasm I cried through the entire movie. I watched in the the theater when in was released and sobbed the whole time. I can't imagine reading the book. 5y
Cathythoughts @DGRachel ahhh! I cant remember it so well. But Robin Williams is such a brilliant actor 5y

Book not listed (I've tagged one of the author's other books) but I swear it's on Goodreads, I haven't made it up for this prompt.

squirrelbrain 🤣🤣🤣that could be a whole new book challenge - making up books! 5y
TrishB @squirrelbrain I‘d have thought she was extra special for making it up! 5y
