Man Called Ove | Fredrik Backman

Pickpick

A pick for making me smile, maybe tear up just a little, once or twice, and (GASP! Ove would NOT approve) hold onto the book past its due date.

Ove is an old-before-his-time curmudgeon, who, with a little help from his new, heavily pregnant and decidedly interfering neighbour Parvenah, shows himself to be quite loveable.

I laughed from the start, enjoyed the stylised storytelling, and thought the way his backstory was revealed was quite clever.

Librarybelle Great choice! 1d
TheDaysGoBy I like that cover! Different than what I‘ve seen 1d

One! Hundred! Demons! | Lynda Barry

Pickpick

Not really my type of art. However I did appreciate the author‘s concept, looking back at the “demons” that shaped her young life and who she would become.

Since it‘s my last of 16 glorious days off work I‘ll count this as my #vacationread for #BBRC #YeahBaby.

I don‘t want to go back! 😢 I‘ve loved this relaxing reading time.

LibrarianRyan Yeahh. I get it. I went back to work last Thirsday. Off did I drag 3w

Some of this read is very predictable, and some just asinine. It was a quick read and I like most of the characters, just not all of them. I enjoyed this series, and it ends on a cliffhanger, but I am not sure I care enough to read the second book. I have it, but it‘s not a priority.

Jane of Lantern Hill | L M Montgomery

Pickpick

I was away for the week on a much-needed, off-grid vacation, and while I was there, I read Jane of Lantern Hill for the first time. Where has this delightful book been all my life?! Seeing Jane find both herself and, eventually, her family, was so rewarding. L.M. Montgomery, I continue to bow down! #vacationread #lmmontgomery

This is between a so-so and a pan. I had the “evil mastermind” figured out so early it was kind of sad. I didn‘t connect to any of the characters and when their lives were in danger I didn‘t react much. #vacationread

This is book 3 in a Harlequin romantic suspense series and I‘m not going to seek out the others anytime soon. It wasn‘t very suspenseful and the romance was lackluster. I love Castillo‘s Kate Burkholder series and her writing has greatly improved since this one. #readthatnotthis #vacationread

I loved this one! It totally creeped me out even during the middle of the day reading beside the lake shore.
Using this for #BBRC prompt #vacationread since I read it on vacation.

Just finished this library book. My first by this author. It was erratic for me, just so-so. Village characters (though bit players) well drawn. Liked the title- reminds me of the peacocks that stroll noisily through my sister-in-laws Florida neighborhood🦚🦚.

marleed I love Jojo Moyes - esp the me before you series, but this book was a meh minus for me. The history of Portland and racism was interesting and important to me but the actual story - not so much. 6mo
kspenmoll @marleed I totally get what you are saying. 😃 6mo

The Day We Disappeared | Lucy Robinson
post image

Started reading The Day We Disappeared this morning while at the beach. Didn't get too far into the book as the little guy wanted to spend most of the time in the water. Seems like this will be a quickish and easy read (exactly what I was looking for). Back to work on Monday will mean even less time to read unfourtunately.
