The Plotters | Un-su Kim

So there was a book sale in the American Bookstore.... Each book for $2.5 dollars. Except the outsider. That was 5. I think that I bought a bit too many books... I am a bookaholic!

I really enjoyed this new-to-me urban fantasy with a kick-ass heroine. There's adventure, chosen family, elemental magic, and revenge. I'll definitely look for the next book in the series 😁 4.5⭐

Louisa Luna's blurb calls The Plotters, "a mash-up of Tarantino & Camus set in contemporary Seoul." I think that's a pretty accurate comparison. Kim's novel is one of the most original contemporary crime novels I've recently read & I found the zany characters a refreshing change of pace from the usual cast of characters one meets in thrillers. Although it falters a bit at the end & I would have liked to have seen more of certain characters, ?

vivastory this was a great reminder of the vibrant Korean crime scene at the moment. I noticed that the translator, Sora Kim-Russell has translated the following which I definitely intend on checking out 1mo

saresmoore And THAT is why I don‘t eat offal. Too existential. 1mo
Reggie My grandma always wanted to have her own restaurant and name it Lupita‘s Tripitas. People says she makes the best menudo but I can‘t stand the texture of tripe. Ughh. 1mo

merelybookish Are you enjoying this book? As someone who resists plot, I found the premise interesting! 1mo
vivastory @merelybookish I am! I'm only halfway through so far, too soon for a verdict but it's one of the more original crime books I've read in awhile. It has a bit of zaniness that I really appreciate. 1mo
Aimeesue Interesting! More than one Assassins' Guild? The Patrician will not be pleased. 😋 1mo

Codename Villanelle | Luke Jennings
Panpan

One of the rare occasions where I can say that the TV show is better than the book.

The thing that I liked about the book was Villanelle's backstory, about how she was picked by the twelve and trained for her role as a fierce assassin.
