Pickpick

This book is relatively short. It‘s an easy read for the most part. Some of the advanced terminology requires you to slow down, but most of the book is fun little read. I‘m not going to lie, I didn‘t understand everything he said. I did get what might be considered the “big picture” of this book, which I figure is probably the “big picture” view of intro to astrophysics.

GingerAntics I loved physics in school, but this definitely reminded me why I am not an astrophysicist today; although, I still think it would be cool. I loved that he wasn‘t afraid to explain about all the things we genuinely don‘t know about. I love that he brought his enthusiasm and passion for astrophysics to the reader. I read the book but have heard really good things about the audiobook. 6y
GingerAntics I think I‘m going to have to do the audiobook one of these days as well. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It has great quotes in it, and it lets all of us nonscientific people to view the world through NDT‘s eyes for a little bit. #neildegrassetyson #astrophysicsforpeopleinahurry #science #physics #neildegrassetysonismyspiritanimal 6y

Now you know.
You‘re welcome.
Now use these randomly in a sentence today and see if anyone notices.

“What better proof do you need of the universality of physical law?”
If this isn‘t enough to convince you that science is real, you and your bible can just have your cocoa without the whipped cream from now on. Those are the rules (of physics) baby!!!

MotionChickness This part made me snort out loud when I heard it (audiobooked) 😂😂 6y
GingerAntics @Stephuhhnieee I wish I had it on audiobook. It would be awesome!!! Still, this book is a blast. 6y
MotionChickness @GingerAntics Neil is the reader on the audiobook, so it was a breeze listening to him. It is on my list to put a physical copy in my library though. I have a feeling it is a book I will continually return to over the years. 6y

Traci1 I listened to this one on audio, and while his narration was great (and his enthusiasm in the subject is infectious), I feel like I would have understood more if I'd been reading it myself. I'm much more of a visual learner than auditory. 6y
GingerAntics @Traci1 I‘m kind of a combo. I hear part of it (because I have Siri read to me and follow along), but there are times I stop and reread parts to fully take them in. 6y
readinginthedark I was going to say...whipped cream melts, but I've never seen it sink. 😆I just don't explain it this way. 6y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark it does melt, but even then it leaves traces. If it melted from the counter to the table, I don‘t think they put enough on. lol You should have whipped cream for at least 3 minutes, or there wasn‘t enough. lol 6y
readinginthedark Agreed! But there's never enough. 😆 6y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark oh I‘ll completely agree with that. I want to sit there adding more and more as it melts away. lol 6y

Interesting thought. Also, makes me think of #NeilGaiman.

rjsthumbelina Wow. I LOVE that quote 6y
MotionChickness Reading the quotes you‘re posting is giving me goosebumps 😂 I think this will be a reread this year! Such a great read ✨ 6y
GingerAntics @Stephuhhnieee I‘m thinking this is a book I‘m going to want or need to own, personally. I‘ve always loved space and I was always good at physics, so that may have something to do with it. 6y
MotionChickness @GingerAntics Yesss! Just said that in another comment to you 😂 It is a little treasure in its own. I felt it was easy to listen to since I have solid knowledge of space... but at the same time I learned so much more. He did good at crunching it all into a small book. 6y
GingerAntics @Stephuhhnieee his chapters aren‘t massive and intimidating lengths either, so it‘s very easy to digest it all. I‘m not even sure how to start going about making notes on this lovely book, but I‘m loving every minute of it. 6y

This is so true it‘s not even funny. I feel like I‘m surrounded by people who think they have all the answers (because they‘re all in the bible 🙄) and I think, have you ever questioned that, thought critically about what you‘re saying? Blind faith is useless.
#neildegrassetyson #astrophysicsforpeopleinahurry #ignorance #theuniverse #blindfaith

GingerAntics This genuinely makes me think of the debate between Bill Nye and a creationist. When asked what would make them change their stance, Bill said “a single shred of evidence” while the creationist said “nothing.” Now if you really believe in god, the answer should be “god comes and tells me himself that I‘m wrong.” If you‘re genuinely after the truth, the answer can never, ever be “nothing.” 6y
Weaponxgirl I always think that if you stop being curious about the world and things you don‘t know or understand then you have stopped growing as a person. Those people are so stunted 6y
GingerAntics @Weaponxgirl I completely agree. I spent so much time wanting to be accepted by these people and they always wanted me to stop asking questions, but why? What were they so afraid I would discover? That they were wrong? 6y

julesG Probably my favourite quote ever. 6y
GingerAntics @julesG it is pretty good. All this if you do this, read this, have faith in this, the universe all makes sense. Nope. It doesn‘t have to make sense. No one ever said it did. 6y

As a kid who always loved space, I am SO excited to read this book. I‘ve been on the waitlist since it came out, and it‘s finally my turn!!!
#neildegrassetyson #astrophysicsforpeopleinahurry #space #thefinalfrontier #science

Gezemice It‘s fun! Enjoy! Wait. 2 years on the wait list??? (edited) 6y
GingerAntics @Gezemice no it wasn‘t that long...I just thought about that. It was more like 6 months. For whatever reason, no matter what I want to read, the library has a 6 month or longer waiting list. No idea. 6y
Gezemice @GingerAntics You want the new stuff! Actually, new-new books have shorter lists bevause the library tends to have more copies. Then they get rid of the extras. At least I think that‘s how my library works. I borrowed this right when it came out and only waited a few days. 6y
GingerAntics @gezemice I don‘t know. Mine seems to always have a massive waiting list. 🤷🏼‍♀️ They don‘t seem to play by any of the rules other libraries do. 6y
