Mehso-so

This collection of short stories is very uneven: some stories are fascinating and engaging, and some are at the very least boring. I think the best part is the introduction, where Geiman discussed how the idea of trigger warning crossed from the Internet to the world of things and how that might change our approach to art #bookclub

I finally picked my 1st libro.fm audiobook. It's true I already have a physical copy, but it is a chonker. And I cannot resist this man's voice. Now I can sit outside and do my spinning or knitting while listening/reading. It's a perfect win/win situation.

I have been on a real short story kick all year long & one of my favorites was my reread of Gaiman's “Fragile Things.“ I wrote in a post several months ago about gems such as “A Study In Emerald,“ “October In the Chair,“ “Forbidden Brides of the Faceless etc,“ “Closing Time,“ “Bitter Grounds,“ “Instructions,“ “Feeders & Eaters,“ “How To Talk To Girls at Parties“ & “The Monarch of the Glen.“ These remain among the best I have read this year.

vivastory BONUS: Last month I listened to a lot of audiobooks, which is a bit unusual for me. What was extremely unusual was that they were almost all fiction. I listened to numerous short form works, mostly various amazon original stories (& the entire creature feature collection). One of the standouts of the month was Caroline Kepnes' “Bad Friend“. I remember I was driving through a grocery store parking lot to pick up dinner & something was (CONT) 3w

Branwen How to Talk to Girls at Parties is one of those stories that I feel like will stick with me forever! I read it ages ago, and still think about it often! 2w

#Two4Tuesday

1. For me the answer can only be Neil Gaiman. Comics, picture books, middle grade, YA, poetry, adult—he‘s a fabulous storyteller

2. The tagged book is probably my favorite favorite & the one I own the most editions of. Plus, it has two of my favorite characters ever—Mr. Croup & Mr. Vandemar. I‘m also inordinately fond of Fortunately, the Milk, The Graveyard Book, & Stardust…ok Coraline too. Alright, all the books!

TheSpineView I'm a big Gaiman fan too! Thanks for playing! 3w

Panpan

Graphic edition of Gaiman‘s short story. Spare and dark, but there was little depth for me. Beautiful illustration juxtaposed with an ugly tale. It is a pan with only 2+⭐️.

I checked this out through inter-library loan recently and finished it yesterday. It has some of the characters from the Sandman series. (Which John Constantine is also part of but I only sort of knew.) It was very good, though I admit that some parts were confusing for me. I've found when it comes to Neil it doesn't matter if you understand the ride though. It's still always interesting. At least for me.

Also, one of my co-workers who is a huge Gaiman fan, like me!, gifted me this and I still don't have words to describe how much I love it! 💕📚🥹 It's my first autographed Gaiman book, and I'll be honest and say I never thought I would be lucky enough to own one! 😭

I always loved the movie and didn‘t know it was based on a book. Once I discovered this, I borrowed the audio version from Borrowbox with my library card.

This was one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. There was a main narrator, and every character had their own voice. The story was as magical as I remember. It is a perfect modern fairy tale that will be loved for many years to come.

I don't know if I'm reading slower or reading Gaiman slow. Either way, this 330 page book took me a month to read. However, I still loved it!

I've discovered there's a miniseries and can't wait to get my hands on it and see this world brought to life.

The was my #GenreChallenge for March. Contemporary fantasy was the randomly chosen genre. This subgenre is a fantasy story in a modern-day setting. It often contains magic but it is not obvious.
