I loved this book so much.

Fern and her mom live at a sustainable farm in upstate NY, with a leader named “Dr Ben”, a stern ruler. It‘s the only home she can remember bc she was little when they moved there. When Mom absconds with her and drives to a California beach town saying that Ben is dangerous, Fern is furious and makes it her mission to get back “home”…
So heartful and well written🩵🩵

I love getting tagged. Thank you both @Eggs and @TieDyeDude for the tag!

The pace was slow but the characters and atmosphere were fantastic. The plot was unique with the cult and underlying feelings of danger.

(2014) This is a bird's-eye intellectual history of American evangelicalism. Worthen argues that its history exposes a crisis (crises?) of authority, in searches for answers on faith vs. reason; relationship to Jesus; and public faith. Not sure I followed the grand argument, and am unsure that it applies uniquely to evangelicals. But I loved the history, which filled gaps and connected dots for ex-evangelical me

#BookSpin and #DoubleSpin reads for August: an academic work on the American evangelical movement; and a decidedly unacademic mystery involving my favorite detectives ever.
Thanks @TheAromaofBooks !

Since I‘m going through all my Rose Wilder Lane books and memorabilia I had to find the photo of my daughter when she dressed up as Rose for a school project and had to give a speech as if she were Rose. That was 2013! Now she‘s (almost) all grown up!!

Some more background material for the #LauraRosereadathon. The tagged book changed my life when I read it 35+ years ago.

Two women I admire who are both authors but live(d) in different time periods. Dr. Remen NF books are unforgettable-she is wise. Writer Lane wrote both F and nonF

1. Rose Wilder Lane, author of the tagged book. She‘s my hero.
2. Did you ghost write your mom‘s books (Laura Ingalls Wilder)? And... How would you convince the world today about the importance of freedom?
3. I don‘t know. When husband and I married, we both brought about 1000 books each to our marriage. 31 years later, and having built a guest house with a library, whose to say? A lot.
