Fern and her mom live at a sustainable farm in upstate NY, with a leader named “Dr Ben”, a stern ruler. It‘s the only home she can remember bc she was little when they moved there. When Mom absconds with her and drives to a California beach town saying that Ben is dangerous, Fern is furious and makes it her mission to get back “home”…

So heartful and well written🩵🩵

The pace was slow but the characters and atmosphere were fantastic. The plot was unique with the cult and underlying feelings of danger.

(2014) This is a bird's-eye intellectual history of American evangelicalism. Worthen argues that its history exposes a crisis (crises?) of authority, in searches for answers on faith vs. reason; relationship to Jesus; and public faith. Not sure I followed the grand argument, and am unsure that it applies uniquely to evangelicals. But I loved the history, which filled gaps and connected dots for ex-evangelical me

#BookSpin and #DoubleSpin reads for August: an academic work on the American evangelical movement; and a decidedly unacademic mystery involving my favorite detectives ever.

Thanks @TheAromaofBooks !

Since I‘m going through all my Rose Wilder Lane books and memorabilia I had to find the photo of my daughter when she dressed up as Rose for a school project and had to give a speech as if she were Rose. That was 2013! Now she‘s (almost) all grown up!!

BarbaraBB Lovely picture 💕 5y

Reggie Omg she looks so much like Heather Langencamp! 5y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm So cute! She‘s lovely! ❤️ 5y
Texreader @BarbaraBB @Cosmos_Moon @LeahBergen @Freespirit @Reggie @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Thanks y‘all! @julesG She‘s quite a different person now from the one you met in London. She was an angry middle schooler then. Now I think she‘s just ready to be done with public school and get on to college. It all happens so fast!! 5y
BarbaraBB She certainly doesn‘t look like an angry middle schooler 😍 5y

Some more background material for the #LauraRosereadathon. The tagged book changed my life when I read it 35+ years ago.

Two women I admire who are both authors but live(d) in different time periods. Dr. Remen NF books are unforgettable-she is wise. Writer Lane wrote both F and nonF

#wondrouswednesday @Eggs

1. Rose Wilder Lane, author of the tagged book. She‘s my hero.
2. Did you ghost write your mom‘s books (Laura Ingalls Wilder)? And... How would you convince the world today about the importance of freedom?
3. I don‘t know. When husband and I married, we both brought about 1000 books each to our marriage. 31 years later, and having built a guest house with a library, whose to say? A lot.

Sharpeipup Is your guest house available for booking or loaning books? 6y
Texreader @Sharpeipup I love that idea! But it‘s husband‘s library along with his work at home office. He does keep boxes of books there that he wants to give away. I visit them periodically to pull out books to read or give away. Maybe I should do a giveaway again! 6y
Eggs Oh at last a person besides me who appreciates Rose Wilder Lane!!!! @texreader 6y
Texreader @Eggs That is so awesome! I‘m so glad to hear you are a fan. I love her so much. She really was a remarkable woman with an amazing life story and beliefs that helped shape my own. I love her so much. Did I say that already? 🥰 6y
