I like books about immigrants in the early 1900‘s. This book centered around baseball and the different ethnic groups that came together to play a game that felt bigger than themselves. The author really pulled me into the story. I really felt like I was experiencing the lives of these characters. Unfortunately, this time also included race riots, poverty, and mob violence. An excellent piece of historical fiction about a sad time in our history.

Cinfhen Sounds great 👍🏻 would work for many reading challenges as a #bookaboutsports 6y
suvata @Cinfhen Yeah, a lot of challenge topics for sure. 6y

I chose this as my #bookaboutsports for the #brrhchallenge but I'm nervous that it will hit all my buttons with regards to psychological thrillers (as in I don't like them), but I also don't like books about sports, so...🤷

Murakami on running was surprisingly interesting and inspiring - now I want to run more, and I want to read more of his novels. I've only read Norwegian Wood and was NOT a fan, but I think it's time I've tried another one. Murakami (or running) suggestions?

JacquelynLovesYou I recently read his conversations on music with the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic. I had to return it to the library before i finished it and i.coulsnt renew 7y
JacquelynLovesYou Sorry, i meant to edit, but i hit send. I couldn't renew the book, but even though i don't know how to read.music it was really interesting. So nice to read about someone writing about what they love. 7y
Allietaylor16 Kafka on the Shore is a good Murakami. 7y
Zelma I didn't care for The Strange Library but did like A Wild Sheep Chase. Haven't read his more popular works like Kafka or Wind-up Bird. 7y

Ooof this was a rough one. I had a lot of trouble getting through the first half, but I'm so glad I did. A really great portrait of healing. Also, it works for #readharder2017 #bookaboutsports #booksetwithin100miles

Murakami shutting down a thing I constantly tell myself - I'm too busy to run or workout today. Dude has run almost daily for 23 years (as of 10 years ago when this was written). 😐

8little_paws This book came out 10 years ago?! 😵 7y
SarahSaysRead @8little_paws Yeah! I was surprised too. 7y

I purchased this today for #LitsyRC16! I admit that I had never heard of Theo before finding out that he both wrote a book and was born in 1989! The first thing I found when I googled him was that he wore the wrong length sleeves... So this should be an interesting read 😉 But actually I'm really excited, I hope to learn more about the world of football! I'm also going to use this for #readharder #bookaboutsports! #Litsyreadingchallenge

RadicalReader @EllieDottie what do you mean by the wrong length sleeves? 7y
EllieDottie @RadicalReader apparently he was suppose to wear long sleeves like all his teammate but he wore short sleeves during a game! 7y

Possibly the only book I'm going to read in my #24in48 but this was great. I read it for #readharder on the #bookaboutsports prompt. There is a lot of information in this book about the problems women face in sport. Going through from pay issues to getting younger girls participating. The interviews with women in sports are really interesting and whilst I've had lots of respect for women in sports before it's gone up tenfold after this book

andreadmw Oooo. This sounds good. The Abby Wambach book was my pick for read harder but this sounds like a good pick too. Thanks! 7y
Weaponxgirl @andreadmw I've just added Abby book to my own stack. 😀 I'm not really a sports fan except for the Olympics so I found this prompt a bit of a chore at first. This one really did get me thinking, the chapter on body image being a barrier to both young girls and to how professional sports women are judged was really interesting. I really want to watch more women's sports now, such a pity it's hard to as a casual watcher. 7y
andreadmw I also was not looking forward to the sports book. But this and Abby's books seem like goodies. 7y
