Hated it!! My picks of 2020 are very disappointing.
A girl who strives to be in a ballet company, her best friend who was kidnapped years ago returns(this part was so annoying, the author draggged this to the end), and also deals with eating disorders and abuse.
This book sounded like it had promise but failed completely for me!!

Next read for January is this beauty. Caught my eye in the library. It covers one word title for #readwithmrbook #52booksin52weeks #litsyatoz

This book exceeded my expectations. It covers a lot of sensitive topics and was a raw read. The protagonist was believable, her line of thinking felt like actually being in a teenager‘s head, especially when what she (frustratingly) thought others perceptions of her would be and how wrong it was! Overall a book about finding the strength to speak up.

This was a hard book to read, because it *should* be hard to read about childhood abuse and rape, about eating disorders and body image, about kidnapping and PTSD. It's also a really important book that teens (and adults) need so they can hear the words, "It's not your fault. You are loved. You did nothing wrong. Yes, that IS rape." Theo rarely stands up for herself, but she is brave, strong, and WILL stand up for her friends, no matter the cost.

😳 This is way different than I expected. Ballet, yes. Eating disorder, yes. Abducted friend, yes (that part was in the synopsis). But there is also continuous child abuse, sexual coercion, and rape, which is really hard to read about. I'm about halfway done, so hopefully I'll finish this up tomorrow.

I really loved this book; it ended up being more than I was expecting. Theo is a high school teen with plans to be a professional ballerina. She finds out that her best friend, who went missing four years ago has just been found alive. This brings up memories of that time and she struggles to deal with them. Theo is such a strong character and her struggles and emotions are very real.

Even Apollo liked it... maybe too much

Pointe is a book that starts out simple but slowly grows more complex and dynamic as you read on. It's part contemporary, part suspense, and part coming of age. Theo is a broken character with flaws and tragedy and I loved her and felt for her. There's a lot going on in this book but it never felt overwhelming or too much. Colbert does an amazing job connecting and fleshing out every part of Theo's life.

This book was a little darker than expected, but was very powerful. Theo's struggle with the truth had me on edge throughout.

This is a line that makes me think "oh boy, this is going to get good"

Worst picture ever! I snapped this at the end of my lunch break. The best part about this book was that it had been on my TBR so long I couldn't remember what it was about! Don't let the ballet girl fool you! This reminded me of You Will Know Me.

Ooof this was a rough one. I had a lot of trouble getting through the first half, but I'm so glad I did. A really great portrait of healing. Also, it works for #readharder2017 #bookaboutsports #booksetwithin100miles

Bestes Jugendbuch seit langem‼️?Ich mag den Schreibstil sehr. Völlig ohne erhobenen Zeigefinger werden Themen jenseits der ausgelutschten Pfade "Highschool, Liebe, Pubertät" behandelt ohne zu dick aufzutragen. Bis auf einen einzigen Gedankengang ist das alles sehr nachvollziehbar.
Mit dem Ende des einen Handlungsstrangs hatte ich so nicht gerechnet. Der war lange eher unter'm Radar.
Authentische Protagonistin. Tolles ?. Begeisterung. Lese-Muss‼️

Ich bin immer noch beeindruckt davon, wie ich bei einer Sache zwischen den Zeilen _eben_nicht_ sofort gelesen habe, wie es wirklich war, sondern nur das, was ich darin lesen wollte.
Und ich gelte nun nicht mehr als jugendlich. Also als Zielpublikum. Echt nicht.
Großes Kompliment also an die Autorin, von der ich, das weiß ich jetzt schon, mehr lesen will. #Vorfreude❣️

Ich hab lange kein so intensives Jugendbuch mehr gelesen.
Und das liegt auch, aber nicht nur, daran, dass ich noch nicht einmal mehr die leiseste Ahnung habe wie sich die Handlung weiterentwickelt, denn alle angelegten Möglichkeiten scheinen mir gleich wahrscheinlich, gleich passend.

Ich habe ein gemütliches Lesesofa und einen gemütlichen Lesesessel. Der gemütlichen Lesesessel ist immer dann besonders gemütlich, wenn, wie jetzt, die Vormittags-fast schon Mittagssonne durch das große Fenster scheint und ich mir vorkomme wie im Wintergarten oder wie im Frühling auf meinem Balkon. ☀️???

Und bin total froh, dass diese tolle, lebensechte – und vor allem wirklich selbstbewusste – Protagonistin nicht nur raucht, trinkt und bei Jungs den ersten Schritt macht, sondern auch mal mädchenmäßig kalte Hände hat (was ja durchaus auch realistisch ist ?) und etwas – aus meiner älteren, lebenserfahreneren Sicht – nicht ganz so kluges tut.?

Ich konnte gerade ein bisschen Lesezeit erübrigen und mein Buch hat das mit diesem Satz belohnt. ➡️ Die Bücher ?, die man gerade liest, sind fühlende Wesen, ??, ich sag's euch❣️

Ein Buch ist dann gut, wenn es mich so richtig, richtig überrascht. ? Und das auf Seite 63. Eine Sache hat mich zwar an einer Stelle ein wenig stutzig gemacht, aber herrje, worüber ich gestolpert bin, war bloß genre-ungewohnt. Nicht mehr.
Und dann kommt dieser Paukenschlag, den ich nie und nimmer habe kommen sehen‼️ Aber: gut gemacht, Herr Colbert. ?? Und obendrein noch auf eine Unwohlsein erzeugende Weise gar nicht so weit hergeholt. ?

Wieder was gelernt. 😄

Bisher hat das Buch das Zeug dazu, eins meiner Lese-Highlights zu werden. Warum❓ Weil der Autor geschickt und unaufgeregt einfließen lässt, dass die Protagonistin eine Schwarze ist, ohne dass dieser Umstand irgendwas mit der Handlung zu tun hat. ? Punkte. Und: sie ist kein Bilderbuch-Teenager. Sie raucht Gras und Zigaretten und ist damit angenehm unangepasst und komplett anders als die "üblichen" Jugendbuch-Hauptpersonen. ?

Bisher mag ich das Buch. Es liest sich flüssig und die Hauptperson ist mir sympathisch. Auch wenn ich mich frage, wie man unter der Woche dreimal zum Balletunterricht gehen kann (und samstags auch noch) und dabei die Schule auf die Reihe kriegen… Aber gut.

Allerdings: weiß jemand, was es in einer Bibliothek zu erforschen gibt❓ Also, so zu erforschen, dass es eine Forschungsstelle gibt… ? Ich bin ahnungslos.

Das Buch hab ich nun schon seit 5️⃣ Tagen entliehen ?, wollte aber erst ein anderes Buch beenden.
Dann bin ich jedoch über die "Kehrwoche 2017" bei Herzpotenzial gestolpert, so dass ich erstmal noch zwei weitere, völlig andere Bücher eingeschoben – quasi weggekehrt – habe. ?

Ab morgen geht es aber mit diesem Buch los. Von dem Autor hatte ich vorher noch nichts gehört, also auch nichts gelesen, aber die Inhaltsbeschreibung hat mich "angefixt".

Kaum bereinige ich mein Nutzerkonto bei der Bücherei stoße ich auf was❓ Richtig‼️ Auf Neuanschaffungen.

"My Life in Circles", so der deutsche Titel (ja, is so – ich bin mir der Ironie bewusst), klingt angenehmerweise nicht nach einer 08/15-Story. Ich bin gespannt. Das Buch ist #vorgemerkt und Anfang Februar 2017 verfügbar.
Vermutlich hab ich die Vormerkung bis dahin vergessen und denk nur "Hä⁉️" ?, wenn die Benachrichtigung kommt. ??

I've been dying to read this forever, and The Munchkin has pulled out a stack of books that she wants to "read a-self", so I'm going to start this. I keep encouraging her parents to model reading at home but they don't, so I guess that's part of my job, too. I don't mind, I love encouraging her to read.

Loved this, kept me up past my bedtime last night and I am paying for it today. It's fast paced, the characters are interesting, and a unique storyline.

A #funfridayphoto that is as close to gymnastics as I have on hand (not counting the new Megan Abbott which I obviously have shown love for already) to celebrate our awesome US gymnastics team. But ballet dancers put just as much dedication into their craft.

The voice in this novel blew me away. I feel like I know Theo well, like I'd recognize her if she walked in the room. The author got so deep into Theo's head that her character arc felt seamless. I can't say much about the plot without spoilers, but it's intense, moving, and oh so real.
