#pemberlittens #thewatsonsreadalong #chapter21 Most of the chapter is devoted to a letter from Elizabeth. Mr. Shaw is on the mend and more tame since his stabbing. He and Elizabeth spend many hours talking , and they clearly love each other. But she and Emma do not believe he will marry. Penelope is distressed by her delay to Bath because of Mr. Shaw‘s assault. She is the worst! But now they will be on there way soon which means Elizabeth 👇

MicrobeMom needs land a husband soon and doesn‘t know which of her 2 suitors it will be. 2y
Ruthiella Yes! That was pretty clear to me back when they met! 😂 2y
julieclair It‘s adorable that Elizabeth is so clueless to the fact that she loves Mr. Shaw! And also so weird that she doesn‘t seem to care which one of the other 2 suitors proposes to her, just as long as she is engaged before leaving Chichester. Things were so very different back then. 2y

I love this illustration of Bingley and his cupids in a tug-of-war with his sisters and Darcy. ? Elizabeth's advice to Jane "You must decide for yourself, and if, upon deliberation, you find that the misery of disobliging his two sisters is more than equivalent to the happiness of being his wife, I advise you by all means to refuse him" is pure Lizzie - wise and provoking. #pemberlittens #chapteraday #chapter21

Lcsmcat That‘s a great illustration! 4y
Crinoline_Laphroaig What edition is that? 4y
staci.reads @Crinoline_Laphroaig It's an Atlantic World 2013 edition that features the Hugh Thompson illustrations from the 1894 publishing. It's 8 1/2 x 11, more "coffee table" sized. I can't remember where I found it. If you scroll back about 15 posts on my page, where I posted a picture of my editions, It's the bottom left one. 4y

#pemberlittens #chapteraday #chapter21 This chapter does a great job of revealing everyone‘s character. We see how manipulative Caroline Bingley can be. Elizabeth‘s own pride in thinking she sees through everyone (though sometimes true). Finally, we see Jane and Bingley‘s companionable naivety. Both are easily swayed and see the best in those around them.
