I enjoyed this one, though I was personally unsatisfied with the ending.

I appreciated the character development of the protagonist and enjoyed the mystery aspect of the plot.

I wanted to get ahead of this one before the show version came out.

I‘ve had this on my bookshelf for years and finally decided to read it before watching the TV show.

This relationship is as toxic as promised. Do you ever find yourself so angry with characters that you literally scoff and say how you‘re feeling out loud? That was me often throughout this book.

I always find it to be a great talent to write unlikable characters so effectively.

Just finished my BOTM, in essentially one sitting. It was fairly predictable but redeemable because of the main characters chemistry.

If you‘ve read The Love Hypothesis, you largely know what to expect with this one.

This was riveting! She came around after I‘d aged out of Nickelodeon so I wasn‘t super familiar, but I‘d heard such great things and decided to check this out.

The audio book, read by Jennette, was super vulnerable and emotional. Her strength and wisdom is impressive after all she‘s been through.

This was an easy read. A bit simplistic but touching on relatable topics for me - a love of true crime and an aversion to vulnerability 😬. Overall an okay read.

Hey strangers! Long time no review 😬

Sorry for going MIA and thank you so much to everyone who checked in. I have no good reason for logging off for so long but hope to catch up on all my missed reviews.

My mom has gotten some good results from her scans and *fingers crossed* we‘re out of the woods.

…but I really enjoyed this one and flew through it on my trip to the beach yesterday (pre-sunburn). It wasn‘t nearly as cheesy as I expected.

After being so moved by the brilliant book Columbine by Dave Cullen I was really interested in reading this perspective.

This quote early on really hit me. Such a perfect way to capture the feeling of grief, shame and confusion.

paperwitchs Dave Cullen has so many inaccuracies in his book that I more so suggest this one, Cullen even has outright lies in his :( 5mo
AmyG I will never forget this woman and this book. We all believe we truly know our children and all they are involved in. She is as much a survivor as anyone. 5mo

~Quick Friday audiobook~

Attempting to watch Lord of the Rings for the first time this weekend. I know I‘m probably the last person alive who hasn‘t seen or read them.

Are the books or movies better?

MaureenMc I loved the movies, could barely make it through the first book (Fellowship). 😬 I have many friends who love both the movies and books. 😁 5mo
TracyReadsBooks My mom read The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring to my sisters and I when we were little so all the books have been lifelong favorites of mine. That being said, I really really love the movies and rewatch them frequently. 5mo

I moved in January and had so much going on between that and work. Then we got the unfavorable news that my moms cancer came back.

We are getting ready to say farewell to November‘s pick. #thatsclassic

I felt the tone and style was very similar to Orwell‘s other work I‘ve read. Of course you except an author will often use the same voice from work to work.

Can you think of another author who has a distinctive writing style? My thought would be Sally Rooney has a distinctive way of writing characters.

Vansa PG Wodehouse! You need to just read one sentence and it's instantly recognisable. Also Pratchett and Enid Blyton.I actually think Animal Farm is quite different in style from, say,The road to Wigan Pier or Down and out in Paris and London.Roth and Hemingway too, have very distinct styles,as does Vonnegut. 10mo

This covers the story of a family where 6 of the 12 kids are schizophrenic. Honestly, this one kind of wrecked me. I knew this dealt heavily in mental illness but I don‘t know how ready I was for it.

It started off pretty slow but toward then you got a picture of how much the youngest sister really interacted with her siblings and it is so so sad.

Hey there #thatsclassic readers! Time for another check in.

I really loved this book and honestly felt like I was reading a purely fictional story. The way it was written really took me out of it feeling clinical. Did you feel this way?

This officially ranks high in my true crime reads. What are some of your favorite true crime stories? Some of mine are Columbine and American Predator.
