I always enjoy Fiona Davis‘ books set in landmark NYC buildings. They are a quick read. I always learn a little bit of history and get to imagine another time. This one was a little more improbable than my ability to suspend belief, so a low pick. 3 🌟

pickThis is my 2nd novel by Lawhon & I am in love w/ her prose, her strong female characters, & her wonderful storytelling. This is the story of a midwife named Martha Ballard who in 1789 not only tends to the birth of her town‘s babies, but is also called to testify in the rape of a woman that has her investigating on her own. Based largely on the true life of Martha, I was completely engrossed w/ the story. She was independent, smart, & empathetic.
