I‘m enjoying this Charlotte Mason technique on homeschooling. I‘m always interested and intrigued by different approaches to homeschooling, and I love how she incorporates nature and literature together to teach and inspire. I‘m always interested in homeschooling books, so if you have a good one, drop a comment below! 🥰

TheQuietQuill Going to look into this one, thank you! 😊 @idealityandme 3w

As a homeschool momma I found this book incredibly beautiful. It not only helps me look at my children and their eduction in a new light, but myself. #homeschool

1. My books are loosely arranged by genre, and proximity and “look”.
2. I have bookshelves in every room of the house except bathrooms. Kitchen shelf is small and barely counts. Images are two of my brothers shelves. He also has books in every room, and since I‘m visiting I borrowed his shelves.
3. Can it be read? Is it interesting? #nohate

As a homeschooling parent, I want to educate and motivate myself to do my best in educating my kids. We lean towards the Charlotte Mason method so I‘m trying to get as much knowledge as I can on how to implement her techniques. So far I‘m really enjoying the information and her reaffirming the reasons we chose to homeschool.

Rough night here. Kiddo had a touch of food poisoning (we think) so everyone was up from 1245-3 AM. She seemed fine at the end of it, dad banished himself to the guest room, and I shared a bed with kiddo. She woke up energetic and feeling fine (we didn‘t) about six hours later but we‘re taking it easy today. I have lunch plans with a friend (eight months in the making!) so dad‘s in charge for a while. Wish us all luck!

jpmcwisemorgan I hope it was something that‘s passed! 5y

ravenlee Thank you everyone! @jpmcwisemorgan @cobwebmoth @RaimeyGallant today went really well. It seems to have been mild food poisoning and once it passed she bounced back fast. Now we‘re just trying to keep her in check rather than jumping back into everything full tilt. 5y
ravenlee @4thhouseontheleft I‘m just glad both our girls are doing well! And your vacation wasn‘t impacted. This has been a hell of a week for us - first our vacation got derailed so we gave up and came home, then last night...but I think things are looking up from here! 5y

Currently reading this book. I have always been book obsessed. Finding Charlotte Mason in my quest to find the best homeschool curriculum has lead me down literary rabbit hole. I have softly landed here. @LitsyWelcomeWagon #LitsyWelcomeWagon #amblesideonline

The word “orient” implies focus, rather than force. Teachers and leaders can show sympathy and spread the feast; but it is the individual person who grows, who learns, and who is finally able to work towards peace and justice, helping others to find their belonging places.

Utilitarian education does more than just ignore literature and history, art and music: it doesn‘t want them around at all. Nussbaum explains that: The arts ask the imagination to see the world in new ways, so they are not the reliable servants of any ideology. The first part of the sentence is a wonderful reason for teaching in all the ways we‘ve been talking about.

jessamyngrace We want to see things in new ways; to see more, to see paintings, to see words, to see nature, to see people, to “see the world in a grain of sand.” “The arts” is not a high-culture, exclusionist idea that shuts people out of Aladdin‘s cave: it‘s what crosses boundaries and brings us in there together. 5y

Martha C. Nussbaum, author of Not For Profit: Why Democracy Needs the Humanities, says that factual knowledge and logic alone are not enough to create a healthy civilization; we require “the narrative imagination,” which includes an awareness of history. Without it, our over-confidence in technology threatens to turn us into “compliant machines.”

It all takes time. Time together. Time that most people don‘t have. Not time to chauffeur the kids to more structured activities, but to go out and look at things together; to have occasional surprises and adventures; to find shared interests; to store up special memories.
