Thoughts on reading Chapter One:
*When did cousins marrying stop being acceptable?
*There's always a Mrs. Norris. That friend or family member determined to make all the plans but not actually give her own money or time.
* So thankful for Birth Control! 📖

Finally decided what I want to read after several false starts. Thanks for putting this on my radar @NatalieR

#childfreebychoice

Hooked_on_books It‘s terrific 3y
Cinfhen 🤞🏼🤞🏼 3y
Megabooks @Hooked_on_books it is. I feel like she took a lot of different perspectives. I‘m sort of fascinated by the whole pregnancy thing, but once they‘re born, I enjoy looking at pictures. I‘d generally rather hang out with my friends sans kiddos. Around here where most people have them, I do a lot of lunches, coffees, and walks while the kids are at school. I‘m also the friend you take to look at furniture or cars or other things that adults only. 3y

Megabooks @Hooked_on_books especially since I also choose to be partner-free that‘s also a bit weird around here. I have one other friend who has never married or lived with anyone, but I wouldn‘t say I‘m you‘re typical 40 year old here! 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen this book is working out and I‘ve also started the one I‘ll tag, which has been knocking around moves since 2010! 3y
Hooked_on_books I never wanted to be anyone‘s mother. So many people used to tell me, “oh, you‘ll change your mind.” Um, no. It‘s not for me. I still sometimes get odd or sad looks from people about it, which I find bizarre since it was a definite choice. And I agree—I love how she combined people with lots of different reasons for not having kids. It gives the reader a better idea of the breadth of the real circumstance. 3y
Megabooks @Hooked_on_books exactly. That‘s one of the reasons I enjoy anthologies on subjects like this. (Diverse opinion ones.) I have four essays left. For me as well there was no drama around the decision. I made it definitively at 24 and haven‘t ever wavered or been wistful/upset, but it‘s always good to hear others‘ reasons, and for those who feel the need to nurture, how the have fulfilled that desire. 3y
CuriousG I thought this book was amazing- so many different stories/reasons that I appreciated hearing. I'm child-free by choice and can't imagine life any other way. I love all the littles in my life, but glad it isn't my responsibility to actually raise them! 3y
NatalieR Oh yay! From your comments, it seems like you‘re enjoying it. I celebrate you and knowing what you want (or don‘t want) for your life. 🥳 3y
Megabooks @CuriousG exactly!! I respect both decisions, as they are definitely personal, but as my childbearing years come to a close, I am 💯💯 happy with my decision. 3y
Megabooks @NatalieR I did!! I finished it in just over a day. Thank you! It‘s good to look at a range of experiences. 3y

Sounds like something my mother would have said. With Mother's Day being this weekend, my Inbox and Social Media feeds are starting to overflow with all the perfect mother 💩. Not everyone had Hallmark movie childhood. And no don't tell me she did her 'best'; because she
Abs🤬glutely Did Not. So yeah I'm proud to be a Rebel.💃🏻

Continuing my tradition of reading anything on the ALA Top 10 Challenged Book List that I haven't read. This made me a big ole pile of happy mush. So sweet. As someone who is #childfreebychoice I enjoy reading children's books. So much more inclusive than they were in my childhood. They fill me with hope for future generations. Especially love reading right before bed. Takes my mind off the troubles of the world so I can fall sleep.🐧🐧🐧

Thoughtful, timely, and engaging, though perhaps a touch dry at times. Blackstone takes the time to distinguish between the childless and the childfree. She combines existing data with original research to dispel myths about the childfree and discusses societal, religious, and cultural preconceptions about parenthood. Worthwhile read, whether you‘re childfree, have kids, or are undecided.

Hooked_on_books This title describes me. I should probably read it. I also really liked 5y
Hooked_on_books Yeah, that one was pretty funny! It‘s good to be seen. 👍🏼 5y

Prairiegirl_reading A coworker recently post on fb about the line of children that your mom‘s mom had, then your mom, then you. Mine looked this: mom‘s mom 💙💗, mom 💗💗, me 💃🏻 5y
keithmalek Due to COVID-19, there are a lot more child-free people. @keithmalek1/millions-of-parents-forced-to-dump-their-kids-in-orphanages-due-to-covid-19-school-closings-5b37ca96048d?source=friends_link&sk=9f8ba399fd4df7c74ad947a9ad0ac801" rel="nofollow" target="_top">https://medium.com/@keithmalek1/millions-of-parents-forced-to-dump-their-kids-in... 4y

The Farm | Joanne Ramos

I bailed on the ebook because I thought I MIGHT enjoy it more on audio. I‘m a couple of narrator swaps past where I bailed, but I feel like this book is a lot of unrealized potential. The idea is solid, but there‘s something missing in the execution. Thoughts?? 🤔

Hestapleton That is EXACTLY how I felt out. You aren‘t missing anything if you bail. 5y
Megabooks @Hestapleton Still undecided on the bail. I mean, the idea is really interesting to me, but the execution is just wrong. I can‘t even put my finger on why. The whole is less than the sum of its parts. 5y
Hestapleton @Megabooks yeah it wasn‘t flushed out enough for me. I liked FUTURE HOME OF THE LIVING GOD much better. THE FARM had the potential, but just didn‘t deliver. 5y

Megabooks @Hestapleton I bailed on FHotLG during the BOTM challenge, but I‘ve thought about going back to it. Maybe pregnancy just doesn‘t interest me. I am #childfreebychoice 😉 5y
OnlyYoo I don‘t think the story was anything super spectacular but it did leave me with some interesting thoughts. I never really thought about how easy is it to make a woman‘s body a commodity and the sort of loss of autonomy that comes with it. Specifically where they forced that one catholic girl to have an abortion even though it was against her religion because the client no longer wanted the baby. 5y
Megabooks @OnlyYoo I had gotten to the part where they found the mosaic trisomy, but not the abortion. That makes me want to listen on. In part that I listened to this morning, they talked about this being an extension of wet nurses, which in a way, it is, but so, so much more invasive. That‘s why I found the idea so interesting. 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y

She is killing it on the #childfreebychoice section of the parenthood chapter. Too many good quotes to share just one. This book really includes a lot of perspectives. Highly recommend with just half a chapter and conclusion to go! #NonfictionChallenge17
