#complaining

When I was a teen, I hated the way Viz Media translated anime and manga, I didn‘t like that they romanized onomatopoeias, and didn‘t like that they dropped Japanese honorifics. Turns out, I still don‘t like them. I could be wrong, but I don‘t think this taiyaki sign is supposed to advertise cream-filled croissants 🤔 (I mean, it might have though. It could be taiyaki up top and croissants on the bottom) #manga #complaining

wanderinglynn Taiyaki can be filled with chocolate, cheese, custard, and even satsumaimo (sweet potato). 2y
wanderinglynn Oh and here in Japan, there is a croissant taiyaki which is a modern take on the traditional taiyaki. There‘s a place that specializes in the croissant taiyaki. 2y
Kenyazero @wanderinglynn I did know about the different fillings (I‘ve only had red bean and I suspect it‘ll be my favorite!) but I didn‘t know about taiyaki croissants! I bet they‘re amazing 😮 2y
wanderinglynn I do like the satsumaimo taiyaki. But I love the Japanese sweet potato. The local ice cream store, Blue Seal, has sweet potato ice cream, Ube (which is the Tagalog word for purple mountain yams). It is my fave! 😋 2y
Kenyazero @wanderinglynn That sounds absolutely amazing 🤩 2y

Was Stephan Britt the first to say “'Tis better to complain, than to arrive“? This book is genius. Kids will love taking Mr. Complain through the loop de loops, and other misadventures. #everybodybooks #dogsoflitsy

A complaint free world sounds really lovely. But is it realistic?

Let‘s be honest: we all complain.

Through this book you are encouraged to go 21 days without complaining and because of it will notice a healthier, happier lifestyle.

I have way eased up on complaining over the past few years but this book really helps keep things in focus. Nothing is wrong with trying to be more positive!

KathyWheeler I think less complaining is doable but no complaining is not and is probably not good for us anyway. 3y
The_Penniless_Author @KathyWheeler Agreed. I think trying to "be more positive" actually can be quite bad for you, especially when it involves ignoring or suppressing legitimate feelings of anger or sadness. There's even a clinical term for it - "toxic positivity". 3y
KathyWheeler @The_Penniless_Author Interesting that there‘s a term for too much positivity. 3y

Another Kohl‘s find that Lula-Belle finds delicious! This PB would be great in a classroom RT. This cranky little penguin has so much wrong in his life that he forgets to look at the good. Until, a wise walrus opens his eyes to the great around him. This could be used as a valuable lesson to appreciate what you have, not dwell on what you don‘t!

Ashley_B I would use ESOL strategy 4 (Link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge) for this book, along with UDL design 9.3 (Develop self-assessment and reflection). http://www.joryjohn.com 4y
DrSpalding You can now use his author study as well! I highly recommend keeping up with the Kohl‘s cares books. They are usually quality books by quality authors and you can‘t get better than five dollars for a hard back! They will last a long time in your classroom library. 4y

This Junior Library Guild award winning book is a humorous tale of a penguin that is having a rough day but ultimately discovers he is where he is supposed to be. This is a great storytelling opportunity or RA. Penguin Prob. promotes the facilitation of coping skills and strategies which is why UDL 9.2 is a principle to incorporate. Teachingbooks.net offers classroom resources. Pages 5&6 introduce a food chain learning opportunity! #UCFLAE3414SP20

Tabitha_H This would be great with ESOL strategy #17, which is to provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial Expressions. 4y
DrSpalding Yes to storytelling and yes to using this in your science curriculum. I‘m looking forward to what the next Kohl‘s cares books will be! Continue seeking them out. Five dollar hard backs are a great value! 4y

I borrowed this one from my boss after she mentioned the author. There are some good ideas here, though they are wrapped up in the fictional story of HR rep Hope, who is tasked with saving the company while her personal life throws stress at her. That story has more drama than an afternoon soap opera!

Still, I‘m glad to have read the book. A complainer by nature, I‘m going to try to only do so with a solution moving forward.

I‘ll be starting the tagged book today, so I‘m posting my #BookReport a tad prematurely. I‘ve enjoyed all of my reading this week! I‘m feeling good about the semi-structure for January so far ☺️

Cinfhen How was 4y
dariazeoli @Cinfhen Worth the read! I think she‘s a wonderful writer and it gave me a lot to think about. 4y
Cinfhen I‘m gonna look for a physical copy/ I just sampled the audio and I don‘t think I like the author‘s voice @Megabooks 4y

Megabooks @Cinfhen my library had the ebook. Don‘t you still have US Libby/overdrive? 4y
Cortg I was going to ask about Unfollow as well! I've gotten a library copy twice and twice I've put it back because my current reading situation is a bit out of control. It no longer has a hold list so hopefully I'll pick it up soon! It sounds fascinating. 4y
Cinfhen My overdrive doesn‘t have it @Megabooks but I recommended it!!! 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 4y
