Garden Called Home | Jessica J Lee

3 ⭐ This is a nice book but a bit sad. Winter is coming, snows on the ground, and everything is chilly. A daughter and her mother live in their home and the daughter loves the outside in the snow, but her mom does not. Mom takes her daughter on a vacation to where she grew up, where it‘s always warm and sunny. The daughter learns what her mother loves about home and tries to find those same things in their home back in the winter place.

LibrarianRyan As I mentioned before, this was an interesting, read. It‘s deep and reflective and leaves room to think and have discussions about families, in particular immigrant families who are making new lives. 13mo

This sweet & clever picture book tells the story of Thandi, a Ndebele girl in South Africa. The star of the book is the photography though - I wish some of the photos were larger so I could really see it all: the beautiful painted houses, the beads and adorned clothing, the smiling faces (except when they have to wear the school uniforms) #authoramonth @Soubhiville

Five Thousand Years of Slavery | Marjorie Gann, Janet Willen

This book was focused on explaining the history of slavery from around 3000 BCE to today. It's as visually stunning as it is horrifying. It connects to you through specific stories of enslaved people in vastly different locations and dates. I definitely recommend for someone whose only heard about one or two specific histories of slavery; it's a fantastic global perspective.
