Written by someone who is a professor of Celtic studies, yet there were several historical inaccuracies that drove me crazy! And the characters spoke in a much too modern manner. #didntlikestillfinished #marchintoreading

#didntlikestillfinished #marchintoreading #day4 The premise intrigued me and the book may have been written well enough but I was too enraged by the misogyny to notice any writing quality. I'm glad this was a library eaudio and not a purchase. @RealLifeReading

JacquelynLovesYou I really want to read Better Angels of our Nature by Steven Pinker but i'm concerned because I've heard about him being sexist. Same with another scientist i can't think of right now. How can scientists be so backward? It makes me question all their conclusions. 7y
shanaqui @JacquelynLovesYou Can't recall Pinker being sexist in what I've read of his. As I recall, he believes there may be explicit physical differences between males and females, but that it doesn't matter and should not affect the conclusions of feminism. 7y
JacquelynLovesYou @shanaqui oh that's good to hear! Maybe it was just Richard Dawkins then. 7y

Jillsandypants Cool picture! 7y
annahenke Thanks! It's using an app called FRAMIFY @Jillsandypants 7y
haileybean Your hashtag 😂😂 I read divergent and liked it ok, and then got spoiled for Allegiant and gave it a huge nope. 7y

annahenke @haileyhugsbooks I liked the first two, but the last one totally ruined the whole overarching message of the series so... 7y
Vexingcircumstance I honestly didn't love any of that trilogy. Then the ending made it worse. I wish I had read spoilers so I was warned. I thoughts I'd at least get a happy ending or I wouldn't have struggled through it all. I DID love the concept and the world the books took place in. Just not the story or characters. 7y
Susanita Yup. I liked the first two, and then the last one was ... 🙄 7y
Soubhiville I totally agree! 7y
Aurora0044 Allegiant was my least favorite of the books 7y
asiriusreader Yup, totally agree! 7y
RadicalReader @annahenke what an awesome photo I love it 7y

Winter's Tale | Mark Helprin
post image

Winter's Tale is at the top of my #didntlikestillfinished list. It was an interminable 700+ pages, and I found myself deeply bored. Yet I finished. Gah! Caged was a 99 cent Kindle Daily Deal, and I regret never getting the hours back despite its low price. I loved Sookie at the beginning but found the later books ridiculous. Tropic of Cancer was so many kinds of offensive. And Highland Mist just didn't live up to my expectations. #marchintoreading

readinginthedark I agree about the later Sookie Stackhouse books! 7y
PurpleyPumpkin You are my hero for finishing Tropic of Cancer! As you know, I just couldn't get through it. I hate bailing on a book, but this is one decision I haven't yet regretted. Yet. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @PurpleyPumpkin Ehh. It was just reading a book. Doesn't seem that heroic, but thanks! 😘 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @readinginthedark I still have the last one on my TBR. It's been out for how long? 7y
Coleen My book club attempted Winter's Tale a couple years ago & only one person finished it. 😳. We ended up watching the movie together instead. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Coleen I'm not surprised! 😎 7y
readinginthedark @BarbaraTheBibliophage At least a few years! I forced myself to read it just so I'd be done with the series. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @readinginthedark You're making me feel so ... subversive! 😜 7y

The Tommyknockers | Stephen King

Biggest pile of shite. I'm still amazed I finished this. The friend that recommended it must have been high when she read it #marchintoreading #didntlikestillfinished

Jamesmelvinmitchell My least favorite of Stephen King's books. 7y
Suzze I love my King books and know I've read this. Don't remember a thing about it. 7y
DeborahSmall @Jamesmelvinmitchell it's put me off reading others.(apart from his Bill Hodge's trilogy) Although I've bought quite a few the last year. I'll maybe try one this year. I really want to read The Shining but scared of hating it 7y

DeborahSmall @Suzze I think the story just didn't age well. I can imagine my friend being scared 25 years ago but reading it as a 39 yr old I thought it was joke, I actually came to the conclusion that if it hadn't been written by King it would have been binned by publishers 7y
TrishB Not the best King book! 7y
Sweettartlaura This is his WORST book by far. I read it shortly after it came out & it sucked then, too. My BF at the time theorized he didn't write it - he let someone else write (family member, most likely) and put his name on it just to see if it would sell. Don't let this discourage you from his others - you're missing out, I promise. 7y
Kerouacthedog @DeborahSmall not that this excuses the terrible, but Long has stated that this is his worst novel, and most of it was written in a haze of cocaine and booze. 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 All I remember is something about refrigerators....am I imagining that? 7y
TheLudicReader Love King. Couldn't get through this book. 7y
DeborahSmall @Kerouacthedog That makes sense!! @JanuarieTimewalker13 a lot of electrical appliances were used/taken apart, I think. I'm trying to block it from memory even though I read it only last August 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @DeborahSmall ha! My friend told me to read it years ago and I remember thinking it was weird but I thought I just wasn't a Stephen King type until 11/22/63, which I loved! 7y

Maze Runner Series | James Dashner
post image

I finish most books I choose to pick up, but my pick for #didntlikestillfinished is the entire Maze Runner series. I had heard good things and student asked me to review the first two with him before he took reading quizzes, so I started reading. Then I just had to finish the series to see if it got better. It never did turn into what I was hoping to read.

#MarchintoReading

Reviewsbylola It's pretty impressive to read an entire series you don't like! 7y
EmilyChristine I read the first book then asked my friend who was reading the series if I should keep going. She said no. She wasn't a fan either. I learned after reading the Twilight series that sometimes it just does not get better. And it's ok to stop. 7y
Daisey @Reviewsbylola @EmilyChristine They were fairly quick YA reads, which helped, and I didn't completely hate them. A large part of my determination to finish these, and various other books, has come from wanting to be able to discuss them with students and recommend them to readers for whom they are a good choice. 7y
EmilyChristine That's really great that you finished them for the student. My main issue was the fact that the other kids never would explain anything to the main character but then get mad at him for not knowing something, which they should have told him. I've read several books just so I could have an honest opinion or know what it's about. 7y

I generally struggle with the decision to DNF, so I have a few selections that qualify for #didntlikestillfinished. These are from the last 6 months or so. I'm always hoping a book will redeem itself. #marchintoreading @RealLifeReading

drokka I struggled with a different David Liss book. If it hadn't been a book group read I reckon it would have been my first DNF. However it did make my #threwitacrosstheroom list. 7y

I wasn't expecting much, it was really just for completion. I hardly remember anything but I know that even my low expectations were disappointed. I still finished it. #didntlikestillfinished #MarchIntoReading

#marchintoreading #didntlikestillfinished - The Man Who Quit Money just never got interesting for me. It was short enough to get through hoping for something but it just drug me through a dull story about a guy mooching off society. I have since donated the book.
