Good book but the ending was a little unsatisfying. I‘m thinking that the next one may pick up where this one left off, but it was tough to read about the protagonist‘s internal struggle for so long with no movement either which way. I did love the setting and mystery, but the struggle over his struggle was real. 🤨

First read finished during #Scarathlon2020. Nice landscape descriptions, the internal monologues of the characters, however, and the endless local history were a bit 'meh' and too long for me.
The thing that really irked me was that it was the first part of a trilogy, and I had no idea about that when I bought it. It was marketed as a standalone back then and it was too uneventful and way too lengthy for me to pick up the rest of the series... 😣

Clwojick Can‘t love them all, I guess. Here‘s to hoping your reads get better and better as the month progresses. 😋 4y

Well the book is intriguing enough even though the bad people is obviously laid out on every pages. I love how the author squeeze a little lovey dovey scene despite how busy the police team of Duluth trying to decipher the murder case. It shows that no matter how occupied you are with the work, leave some space for yourself for another things as well.

Newest vacation experience: reading an award-winning Norwegian murder mystery set on the North Shore of Lake Superior while sitting on the North Shore of Lake Superior. I did not expect it to be so unnerving, but I also don't think I expected it to be quite so detailed as to mention the gas station I stopped at yesterday just down the road O_O

tracey38 Oh wow. That would be quite creepy. 6y
Maewyn That is kind of cool though. I love when books are set somewhere I am or know... However a murder mystery might not be the best genre for the "That is totally right here" vibe. (edited) 6y
Whodunit85 @Maewyn Right? I thought it would be super cool, but now I'm reading about gruesome things happening at campsites I'm basically living next to for five days. Not so fun anymore 😂 6y

Pickpick

He did it again GREAT book by Brian Freeman. Hollywood is making a movie about an old serial killer case but new murders and disappearances are occurring around the set. So much goes on in this book and I kept guessing the entire time. I thought at one point I figured it out. Nope!
