So much fun! I love matching wits with Encyclopedia Brown. I should probably be embarrassed at not solving all of the cases, but I deduced most of them, and I‘m totally okay with that. I love the format, and other than Charlie‘s creepy teeth collection, I enjoy the characters. Thanks @Ruthiella for starting the #EBBR! This has been so much fun!

tpixie Fun! 🤩 2d
Ruthiella I‘m also okay with still being occasionally stumped! At least I am a little bit more on the ball now than at 10 years old. 😂 2d

I‘m so glad I kept this series instead of giving it away. I loved them as a kid & I‘m enjoying revisiting them with the #EBBR group.

Reading this month‘s #EBBR book, I wondered:

1. Why anyone would trust Bugs Meany or make a bet with him! 😂

2. Why does he wear a “Jughead hat “? Were those real?

So I looked up the hat. From Wikipedia: A whoopee cap is a style of headwear popular among youths in the mid-20th cent. in the US…made from a felt fedora hat with the brim trimmed with a scalloped cut and turned up…often decorated with buttons, badges, or bottle caps.

Who knew? 🤔

Jess861 I had no idea the Jughead hat was real - I always thought it was a crown in the comics, lol. 1w
Ruthiella @Jess861 It does look like a crown! 👑 1w
Read4life I didn‘t know that‘s how they were made. Thanks for the fun facts!! 1w

I never read these as a kid. I did enjoy them as a logic puzzle lover. It did cause me to go look and see if some books from my childhood are available. Such as the dear america series, animorphs and goosebumps and they are available through the library.
#ebbr @Ruthiella

Ruthiella Awesome! I loved them as a kid and am having fun revisiting. Do you want me to tag you about future #EBBR posts? 2w

Hey #EBBR reading friends! I hope you all had fun solving cases with Leroy “Encyclopedia” Brown. I freely admit, one stumped me (The Civil War Sword) and one I got only b/c I remembered the solution (The Happy Nephew). As an adult, I do think some of Encyclopedia‘s deductions would not hold up in court 😂

1. Did any particular case stand out to you over another?

2. Are you interested in continuing reading the next books with me on Litsy?

Read4life I really enjoyed revisiting these stories. I‘m in to continue reading them. 🤓 3w
TheAromaofBooks I was relieved to find that I was somewhat better at solving these as an adult 😂 But there were definitely a couple of times that the solution didn't feel like it was 100% the only possibility. Still, these were super fun and I'm definitely planning to keep reading!! 3w
bthegood I'm in for more, like others have said, I'm glad they don't stump me as much as an adult. I was was thrown by Encyclopedia saving his pulled tooth for his friend that collects teeth, don't remember what I thought of that when I originally read them🤪 (edited) 3w

DGRachel @bthegood the tooth collection freaked me out! I have a vague memory of trying to read one of these as a kid and bailing because I couldn‘t get any of the solutions so I was very pleased to figure some of them out this time! I‘m absolutely game for more of these. I really enjoyed the format and agree wholeheartedly that the solves might not hold up. 🤣🤣 3w
bthegood @DGRachel glad I wasn't the only one😆 3w
Sace Oh I would love to continue reading these books! 3w
bookandbedandtea I'm reading this with my grandson- which is a delight!- but we're only halfway through so we haven't come to the teeth yet 😬 So far my favorite mystery has been the bank robber. 3w
Ruthiella @Read4life Awesome! I‘m totally enjoying this walk down memory lane also. 3w
Ruthiella @TheAromaofBooks I was seriously worried I would be as flummoxed as I was at 10! 😂 With age does come wisdom, thankfully! 3w
Ruthiella @bthegood I wonder if the tooth collection doesn‘t have some basis in fact? 🤔 I collected pennies and matchbooks as a kid (all spent now). Kids do sometimes have weird ideas! 😂 (edited) 3w
Ruthiella @Sace Great! I‘m totally having fun and they take no time at all to read. 3w
Ruthiella @bookandbedandtea Oh, what a great way to read these. The Bank Robbery one was one where I particularly thought that were it not for the actual evidence of the cash under the mattress, the clues could have been explained away by a good lawyer! But in kids mysteries, the criminal always confesses when confronted it seems! 😂 3w
bookandbedandtea @Ruthiella Oh I totally agree with you that a competent lawyer could have torn holes in that case, were it not for the money! I think I liked that he needed to investigate a bit rather than solve the case while eating dinner. And it's a good point that criminals seem to blab everything when confronted with a child detective! 😂 3w
Sace @Ruthiella soon it will be the crazy busy school season and I will need books that don‘t require lots of time and bandwidth. These will be perfect for that. 3w
bthegood @Ruthiella could have some basis in fact....🥴 3w
DebinHawaii I definitely was better solving these as an adult, but I did vaguely remember a few of them or similar stories/problems to solve with the solutions. 😆 It was fun & they are quick & easy reads, so I‘m in for reading more! 3w
Ruthiella @DebinHawaii Fantastic! Let‘s see how we fare with the next collection! 3w

#Read2025 #SeriesLove2025

It was fun to go back to my childhood detective days & reread the first book with #EBBR I remembered most of the stories in this one & how smart they made me feel when I managed to figure them out as a child (& now as an adult although I don‘t know how much was memory & how much was getting hopefully smarter as I aged!) 😉😂 I have the 2nd book checked out from the library & I‘m looking forward to it.

DieAReader 🎉🎉🎉 4w
Texreader I reread some of these books with my son when he was young. So much fun!! 4w
Ruthiella I also enjoyed seeing how well I was able follow the clues as an adult vs as a child. 4w

#Naturalitsy #HyggeHourReadathon

Spending my #HyggeHour with Encyclopedia Brown for #EBBR & when I finish it I may try to start Run or I may go to sleep. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The dried cinnamon Fuji apples are pretty much total sugar but they are so darn good! 😋

How did Monday get here so soon again? 😬 It‘s going to be another busy work week but teaching workshops online so no Hilo trip.

Ruthiella Sounds like a perfect evening. ☺️ 1mo

DELIGHTFUL! I can‘t believe I never read these as a kid. I adore the format - short stories with the solution to the mysteries at the end, giving you time to puzzle out the solution, if you can. This was a lot of fun. #EBBR

TheBookHippie They are still popular in our elementary school library. 1mo
AlaMich I was a big fan of these. I don‘t think I ever once figured out the mystery before the end. Not sure what that says about me. 🤪 1mo
Sace @AlaMich I never figured them out either! Though I remembered the solution to The Case of the Civil War Sword. Why I should remember it is beyond me! 😂 1mo
DGRachel @Sace @AlaMich 10 year old me would not have been able to figure these out. I think I got most of these on this read because I knew to pay careful attention and also because some of them are now brain teaser tropes. 1mo
Ruthiella @AlaMich @Sace @DGRachel I was always stumped by them too! 😂 I remembered the solution to The Happy Nephew - weird what sticks in our heads! 1mo
