Shirley and Jamila are two girls with the same problem. They are destined for summer camps they don‘t want to go to. Jamila is the youngest of three children: a 20 year old brother, a 16 year old brother, and her. She loves to play basketball, but she can only play it on hoop in her driveway. Shirley is unusual. Sam called her weird and Shirley does not like that. What Shirley is, is observant. She notices things that others don‘t.

LibrarianRyan This is a gender bent Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Jamila is fun-loving and she wants to get to know people, and have friends. Shirley loves to read, finding things out, and solving mysteries. Shirley, being super smart hatches a plan to keep them out of summer camp. Instead she has found a way for Jamila to spend the summer on the basketball court and Shirley helping the neighbors solve mysteries and find lost things. This book was an absolute 20h
LibrarianRyan joy to read. The illustrations are appropriate, they‘re funny, and I think people will see themselves. I think kids will find this a lot of fun and while Shirley may not be a bumbling detective she‘s bumbling through life trying to make friends and not be seen as the weird child 20h

Fresh batch of robot picture books: Sharing Does Not Compute is fun and I'm stunned a board book is in such good condition, given the target audience. Little Bot and Sparrow is sweet with beautiful illustrations but I can't help feeling it was trying too hard to be slightly melancholy. Welcome to Your Awesome Robot is a fun way to spend an afternoon with a cardboard box. Boy + Bot is just adorable. I would happily have adventures with that Bot.

Seven days. Three families. One killer. This has been on my kindle for a while. Four women who were best friends at university meet up in the south of France with their husbands and children. Kate thinks her husband is having an affair, but who? One of the best friends. Which one? Kate is closing in on the truth but the stakes are far higher then she could ever imagine.
A gripping story that had me hooked from the start. Perfect for a holiday read

Contrary to what my coffee mug says, mornings are not only pretty but peaceful warm and GOD given. My books and brew this morning had me loving this it‘s so spot on! Middle school can be tough and she tackles more than a few issue in the book. Shoutout to my daughter from another mother who let me borrow her copy. I would tag her but stranger danger there‘s a lot of weirdo‘s in this world.

I worked this weekend and didn‘t complain about it once! Which I felt deserved a little bookstore splurge… what else would I do with my weekend meal allowance money? 🤔

I display this picture from the book for the students to emulate when they draw themselves after reading the story.

It‘s not an exaggeration to say that Episode 198 of my podcast is more than a decade in the making! My guest Colleen McKeegan is the debut author of THE WILD ONE — but also a high school classmate of mine! We talk quite a bit about high school memories, but also a true gem of a throwback read P.S. LONGER LETTER LATER. 💌 Link to listen in my bio!
