“I will be too tired, I'm going back to bed.“ I relate to this quote said by Toad ALOT.

I would include this book in a first or second grade classroom where kids are really getting the hang of reading. Because of the simple language used in the book, it's a great starter book!

“Frog and Toad are Friends“ by Arnold Lobel, 1970. Traditional literature. I used to read the Frog and Toad books all the time when I was younger! I love the friendship Frog and Toad have and think they lead a great example for children on how to treat their friends. The plot is very simple so kids can get the message.

I would read this book to 1st and 2nd graders. Its a simple book for them to hear and read. These two grades will enjoy the storyline of friendships.

This animal fantasy picture book is a great story about friendship. Frog and Toad help each other as friends do through out the book. Frog helps wake sleepy Toad and Toad helps frog feel better when he's sick. This book highlights the importance of friendship. #ucflae3414su19 This book would best be taught as a read aloud.

This Caldecott Honor recipient is a MF book that is a collection of short stories. They would make for a great RT! I really enjoyed Spring and The Letter but each story would make a great RT for small groups. In Spring, Frog tricks Toad into waking up to spend time with him after a long hibernation with a clever calendar trick. The Letter portrays a great friendship where Frog cheers up Toads “sad time of day” and gives a new meaning to snail mail

DawnS RT which you can find more details on here: https://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/readers_theater will help meet UDL 3.3 Guide info processing and visualization by allowing students to understand the dialogue and relate to the friendships shown. Also ESOL 16 integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities by creating, performing, and watching RT in groups. #ucflae3414su19 7mo
galacticbees Aw this book is so cute. I love that it has so many stories inside. I feel like RT would be amazing for this book because kids could truly become a character and begin to develop a better understanding of the story. 7mo
DawnS @galacticbees exactly! This book really lends itself to RT too because it‘s very descriptive and uses a lot of dialogue. I saw this book at Barnes and Noble the other day and remembered it from when I was a kid! Wild that it is so timeless! 7mo
DrSpalding It did make an excellent readers theater! Use this in your future classroom 6mo

ImperfectCJ We loved these, and still enjoy the audiobooks from time to time even though my kids are 14 and nearly 10. Have you read Lobel's Owl at Home? One of our favorite stories---"Tearwater Tea"---is in that one. 7mo

Frog and Toad Are Friends (a Caldecott Honor) is one of the many classic “I Can Read” F books that Arnold Lobel wrote and illustrated during his lifetime. The tale of these two best friends, described throughout the multiple stories within, bring so much joy to beginner readers. I can guarantee no matter your age, you will find humor within these two fascinating characters. #LAE3414sp19

melindamcmullen84 This book could be great for a younger-aged LC. I also see the Frog and Toad series being a good AS because Arnold Lobel has a lot of good classic reads. This website has a collection of 3 of his works to do a AS on. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Arnold-Lobel-Author-Study-Bundle-303... 11mo
melindamcmullen84 UDL 8.3: foster collaboration and community and ESOL 2: promote cooperation (small groups) is a great way to work in LCs and even with an AS. 11mo
kkimmelman @melindamcmullen84 After this post I was excited to try this book! I think it would be an excellent addition to any elementary setting. As you said, this book can foster collaboration and promote cooperation and would really be excellent in teaching students how to form literature circles. 11mo
alexandracarpenter Since my author study was Arnold Lobel, I definitely agree that this book can be good for an AS, lol! I loved the Frog and Toad books and think they are a good fit for any elementary classroom. 10mo

Using my research as an excuse to reread some old childhood favorites was the best idea. I absolutely loved this book growing up, and reading it now was just as much fun. Frog and Toad are so sweet and slightly ridiculous. I have a very strong urge to rush home and read it to my younger siblings!

This picture book by Arnold Lobel is an Animal Fantasy (F) recollection of stories about Toad and Frog. Amusing stories about friendship with beautiful illustrations that was awarded the silver Caldecott Medal. Great for Storytelling(S) and Read Alouds(RA) for the classroom. All of the stories are cute and funny and enjoyable to read along with the class.

Frog and road are friends by Arnold Lobel is one of my favorite childhood books of all time. This fiction book is a Caldecott award winner. A collection of short stories about two best friends (one is a toad and the other a frog) expecting many new adventures. https://mrswillskindergarten.com/frog-toad-lesson-plans/ Mrs. Wills has so many wonderful activities for kindergarteners and it's just amazing.

AlexaDP I remember reading this book over and over when I was younger and seeing it when our class went to Barnes and noble and being super excited! I loved the link you provided as well because it gives the teacher‘s using it options in what lesson plan they may or may not want to use! 2y

“Frog and Toad are friends” is a great F read for the classroom. In this story we are taken through the friendship of the frog and the toad! This book is a great start to the individual reading level. This book also was a Caldecott medal runner up for its amazing illustrations. Some classroom strategies to use would be S, PR, and IR. #ucflae3414f17

#PhotoADayNov16- It wasn't this book's fault that I #threwitacrosstheroom, it just happened to be what I was holding at the time.

The most trouble I got in as a child was when I threw this book at my father's head. I was angry because he said something about books for grownups not having pictures in them. I'm not sure why this made me so mad, but I apparently felt it was worth having a tantrum over.

Nothing wrong with Frog and Toad though.

Loreen God, I hate these books. My kids hated reading them and I hated listening to them read them. Is there any other series out their so blatantly designed to make kids hate reading? Ugh. We wanted to throw them but couldn't since they belonged to the school. 😾😾😾 3y
