I‘m a sucker for books about writing—I enjoy them both as a reader & as someone who occasionally does some editing. This short volume was first published in 2006 (and may be hard to find) & it‘s a fantastic resource for young aspiring writers. Levine breaks everything down into short chapters—on character, getting stuck, setting, revising & loads more—that always end with a writing exercise to reinforce the lesson. Encouraging & informative.

2.5/5⭐ There is some specific information for crafting a journal and drawing in it at the beginning, but the majority of the book is more for generic inspiration. Everything is basically “sit still and draw what you observe“ without much more detail. There are lots of examples with the author's notes about when she drew them. The book is more an exploration of the author's art journal than a how-to.

When I was thinking of books for #Sand I couldn‘t help thinking of the song & video of Sandcastles In the Sand in an episode of How I Met Your Mother when Robin‘s first boyfriend (James Van Dee Beek) comes to town.

Here‘s a link to “Robin Sparkles‘s” bad 80s video: https://youtu.be/Q04QF65FoEE?si=HNrdSTmx4hmI1VF2

kspenmoll This is such fun!!! Thanks for the song😀 5mo

One of my New Year‘s Day projects was organizing a small bookshelf where I have paperbacks I‘ve read and want to keep. For awhile I‘ve wanted to organize them by author and add in the hardcovers I have from those authors, too. I‘m not 💯 sold on this design, but at least I know where to find all my O‘Farrells or Egans or Erdrichs, etc.

BarbaraBB I love it 🥰 10mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB thanks! 💜💜 10mo

With themes ranging from funny to everyday life, and accompanied by beautiful illustrations from Richard Jones, it's a perfect read for both group and solo sessions. A lovely addition to any library, inviting children to explore the magic of words and imagination.
