TheBookgeekFrau @BiblioLitten Thank you! 😊 4w
bookandbedandtea Awww what a cutie! 4w
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea Thank you, she is. But! She seems to have some serious health issues as it's turning out. They've had her 2 weeks and have already spent $1000 on vet visits and meds. I'm so angry at the unethical behavior of the humane society to release a dog they still had in quarantine 😤 4w
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau That's awful! I'm sorry they ended up with much more than they bargained for. Are these ongoing health issues or likely to be cleared up after these initial expenses? 4w
Eggs 🐕‍🦺😣🖤 4w
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea Yesterday the vet told them that her blood work was weird and she might have cancer, but they would need to take to to a specialist to find out for sure. Or it might just be a bacterial infection or a virus. She's on another round of antibiotics, which is difficult to get her to take. At this point I think they should return her before the 30 day window is up, as heartless as that sounds 😣 4w
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau Poor doggie! I feel badly for her but I kind of agree with you. It sounds like she may cost them a great deal and possibly be in poor health the whole time anyway. Since there's a return window they should probably take it. 😭 4w
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea It's just heartbreaking all the way around. And I'm disgusted with the humane society of pikes peak. But thanks for listening to me vent 🙏🏼🙂 4w
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea A happy update: turns out little Miss Mia does Not have cancer! The humane society left a piece of her uterus when they spayed her. So as soon as her pneumonia clears up they'll go in and clean her up. 🤞🏼🤞🏼for a good result! 4w

When I visited the National Gallery, many years ago, this painting by Joseph Wright of Derby stopped me in my tracks. I‘ve never forgotten it. It‘s disturbing but fascinating at the same time.

There's an elusiveness in Wyeth's art, a feeling of being suspended and detached - not quite present in any physical sense. I've been drawn to Andrew Wyeth's work since visiting Brandywine Museum of Art years ago and enjoyed reading more about Wyeth and his art.

“Christina loves animals - kitten are her whole world -and to watch her hold that little thing in that hand of hers - it was phenomenal. She to me is the essence of New England witchcraft. She has such knowledge of hardship and her being is so strong - to me she rules like a queen, absolutely.“ -Andrew Wyeth speaking of Christina Olsen; image is one of his paintings of her, Miss Olsen

I wasn‘t expecting the miniature version of 100 Flowers to be quite this miniature, but ever since I discovered miniature versions of coffee table art books I‘ve been looking for (used if possible) ones to look at in bed when I‘m too sick to read or watch TV, so maybe a truly tiny one is actually just what I needed. I can keep it by my bed right within reach. #theuniversealwaysknowsbest

Pickpick

This was an incredible book, but a total sausage fest.

It gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for being an inspiring, colourful, accessible, engaging volume, and for giving me a grounding in art knowledge that I didn't think possible from one book.

Art is discussed from a Eurocentric position, only ONE female artist is featured and some of the language is culturally insensitive to the modern ear, but this remains an outstanding work.

Thirsty for more now!

Suet624 Glad you got so much out of this! 9mo
Branwen Oooooh this sounds lovely! 💕 9mo
RaeLovesToRead @Suet624 @Branwen I adored it. I feel really guilty because I'm now reading The Story of Art Without Men and I'm missing Gombrich's enthusiasm and zeal. He made me care about some truly iffy paintings!!!! Shame it was so bloke-heavy 😅 9mo

Educating ourselves on the history of art.

Pickles says that whilst appreciating the vitality of Rubens' work, she finds it a bit grainy and aesthetically prefers the softness in the portraiture of Raphael...

Just kidding. She's a philistine.
