Today is catch up on buddy reads day.

This quote from yesterday‘s chapter has given me pause, something about it in light of current events resonates.

@TheBookHippie

TheBookHippie It is eerie reading this right now - some of the passages just blow my mind. 6d

DrSabrinaMoldenReads My translation is very different. 3mo
Cuilin @DrSabrinaMoldenReads I was just sad for Fantine. The way the boys ‘surprise‘ abandoned the girls was appalling. 3mo
dabbe And Tholomyes is described as “badly preserved ... wrinkled, toothless ... beginning to show signs of baldness,“ and in which he claims about himself, “Cock-of-the-walk at thirty, coot at forty.“ #wth? 3mo

Cuilin @dabbe yes!! Hugo tells us “20 years later he was a fat, provincial attorney, rich and influential”, but “always a man of pleasure” For all his philosophical talk he knew he was going to abandon her!! 3mo
dabbe @Cuilin And it looks like the other girls totally got the joke and moved on, but of course the innocent Fantine, who gave herself for the man she truly believed she loved, is the only one to get pregnant. Truly #lesmis. 3mo
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin It gets a lot worse. That was a light event 3mo
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin I was truly into my feelings by the end of that section 3mo
Cuilin @DrSabrinaMoldenReads You‘re right, I‘m bracing myself. It‘s so different reading it than seeing it in a theater or on screen. For some reason, I thought Fantine would get more of a love story before the abandonment and single motherhood and having to leave Cosette. I‘ll have to steel myself. 3mo
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin Certainly no love story 🥺 3mo
tpixie @Cuilin the abandonment was atrocious!! 2mo

I‘m sorry I haven‘t posted in a while. This book took me forever to get through, but it was well worth it. I hadn‘t realized that I needed a Les Mis retelling in my life until I heard about this book. The elevator pitch is actually, “les mis in space,”! 🤯 Seriously, this book is really good and the first in a series, so there is more adventure to come.

Scary Stories for Young Foxes | Christian McKay Heidicker

Pickpick

I have FRESH NEW #bookreviews up on my blog for #TheNewMe by Halle Butler (dark comedy, literary fiction), #SkyWithoutStars by Jessica Brody and Joanne Rendell (YA sci-fi reimagining of #LesMisérables), and #ScaryStoriesForYoungFoxes by Christian Heidicker (middle grade Poe-inspired woodland tale).

I enjoyed all three! But SO different.
You could say I have broad reading tastes... ??‍???

So, I finished it you guys. Oh my goodness, that ending...

Ok, I get it, I should‘ve really taken in those parts where I kinda half listened to the story because they had a great message. Hugo was ahead of his time. He was essentially speaking up for the less fortunate, those wronged by the “justice” system, those judged by society. He wanted fair punishment for criminals and rights for children and women as well. I will listen to it again.

SailorMoon Hi! ? I'm sorry, I am not an English native speaker so I can't really figure out what it means when I read "movie tie-in"... is it a short version or you actually read the whole book? Because OMG my sincere compliments if you did!!! I tried, but as much as I loved it, I needed to take a break and read something else LOL I only read the first tome out of three ? 6y
TheBookAddict @Hufflepuff16 it‘s ok. It means that it‘s the book with a cover picture taken from the movie. I actually listened to the audiobook. It‘s too long of a book for me to actually read the book 😆. I just listened to it while I was doing other things. 6y

SailorMoon Thx for telling me!!! I tried audiobooks but I just can't keep focused 😰🤣 glad you liked it though, the movie is one of my favourites! 6y
TheBookAddict @Hufflepuff16 you‘re welcome. lol, it happens. I haven‘t watched the movie yet, but I will. 6y
Peddler410 @Hufflepuff16 I read the book over 6 months. About 200 pages at a time. 6y
TheBookAddict @Peddler410 that‘s impressive. If I read the physical book I‘ll probably have to do that too. I would need to take breaks. 6y
TheBookAddict @Peddler410 did you get a package on Monday? I just want to make sure it didn‘t end up lost somewhere. 6y
