I read 154 books this year! At the beginning of the year I started drawing the spines in my book journal with a stack for each month & am proud to say I kept it up all year long. I‘m definitely going to continue to do this in 2025 as I love the way these pages turn out… plus it‘s good practice for my art.

In the middle of 2 more books but I don‘t know if I will finish them today. Might wait to post my StoryGraph wrap-up tomorrow just in case.

I love reading poetry but stumble at the theory, so I'm going to try and work on this next year.

BookmarkTavern That sounds like a really interesting goal! Good luck! 🍀 4d

Your 'year of reading' from Goodreads has a different look this year.
Edit: 😆, it doesn't. It's the same at the website.

This f***ing hurts to hear the allegations against NG. I‘m listening to Council of Geeks commentary on Tortoise Media‘s podcast about Scarlett, K. and Caroline coming forward with their stories. I‘ll eventually get around to listening to TM and as well as Claire on the Am I Broken podcast. For the moment I need to process the news.

Why Indigenous Literatures Matter | Daniel Heath Justice

Pickpick

I've brushed up against literary scholarship before, but there's something so much more immediate about the way Justice approaches the topic. In his conclusion he states “ Indigenous literatures matter because Indigenous peoples matter.“ This book is an exploration of all the ways Indigenous writers, poets, playwrights, autobiographers, have helped to both 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? outline the many ways colonialism, a racist white supremacist system, has stripped Indigenous people of their stories, their context, their sense of worth, and also how these same groups of creatives have helped to bridge the gaps, foster connections, healing, revive a sense of culture, of value and tradition through their writing. 6mo
Robotswithpersonality 3/? Justice credits non-fiction as well as fiction in a wide range of genres, and includes part of his own story in reflecting on disenfranchisement and rebuilding. 6mo
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 This book has value as more than just a look at Indigenous literature (so many things to add to my TBR! Though there are some spoilers covered when addressing themes); it's also an inspiring but pragmatic reaffirmation of the work of Indigenous peoples that is still ongoing, acknowledging what has been lost without submitting to the notion that loss is all there is left.
