The continuing series starring Inspector Barnaby and his sidekick Troy. Not my favorite, too much setting up of the murder , but worth reading to move on to next book.

This really did not age well. I disliked Sgt. Troy and found the main storyline rather sensational and weird. It was a meandering sort of story and by the end I really didn‘t care whodunnit. The cat that Barnaby and his wife were cat-sitting was honestly the best part of the whole book for me.

KathyWheeler The show made an excellent decision when they decided to change Troy‘s character. I was used to him from the show, but I really dislike him in the books. 6mo
rwmg Add me to the list of those who prefer TV Troy to Book Troy. Most people I know just want to look after TV Troy but detest book Troy 6mo
erzascarletbookgasm Yes TV Sgt. Troy was much likeable 👍 6mo

This final in the Midsomer Murders series is the longest and the most slow burning, character developing novel. When a death occurs, it looks like a simple accident. And yet…

I‘m so glad I found this series on audio! #BBRC #YeahBaby #ADevilInTheDetails

LibrarianRyan Is that the same Midsomer murders they made the show of? 9mo
Librarybelle @LibrarianRyan Yes! The show is a bit different from the books, and obviously not every show is based on the books (isn‘t there over 100 episodes now???). I loved exploring the origins to the show. 9mo

This edition to the Midsomer Murders series starts off with a bang and does not stop. Barnaby and Troy are as snarky as ever. John Hopkins‘s narration is so engaging to me. I blew through this one and am anxiously awaiting the audio release on Audible next month.

Crazeedi I adore the series, and recently looked to see if I could find the books! Definitely on my tbr!! 11mo
Librarybelle @Crazeedi I hope you can find the books! The audio is a delight. The books are darker than the series, and the characters, especially Troy, are more crass and less “Hollywood”. But, I‘m so enjoying the books! 11mo
Crazeedi @Librarybelle I'd love to find the audio books, I read Camilleri's series on audio and they were so very good. We will see!! 10mo

I‘ve been enjoying the audio versions of the books that the Midsomer Murder mysteries are based on. There is a lot more detail in the books than can be crammed into an allotted tv series time. I‘ve seen most/maybe all of the shows, but as there were umpteen seasons, I‘ve mostly forgotten the plots and the “who dunnit”, so the endings are a surprise. These are fun and entertaining listens.

I finally got to leave the house and go for a walk. It was a very windy day out there; that‘s probably why the tree fell. That wind kept it from being hot though. I still have 5 more hours left in this book, and I can‘t figure out what exactly could take up 5 hours. #audiowalk

Midsomer Murders probably made a conscious decision to make Sergeant Troy more likeable in the show. I think this served them well; he‘s got a lot of unpleasant traits in the books. It‘s jarring since I had watched the show before I read the books, and Troy is one of my favorite characters. #audiowalk
