July — You Like It Darker
August — The Elephant Vanishes

I can‘t decide which collection of short stories I preferred. They were both excellent! Hmmm… #topread2024 #readingbracket

I absolutely loved this early (1994) collection of 17 surreal short stories with the haunting, mysterious, dream like qualities I have come to associate with Murakami.

BarbaraBB I hadn‘t heard of this one but it sounds good 3mo
rachelk @BarbaraBB I recommend it :) 3mo

Joining #ForTheLoveOfBooks hosted by Lisa @TheSpineView
I'll treat it as a #20in4 - where I don't really aim for a full 20 hours, I just track my reading time and try to read as much as possible over the four days.
🧡💛🧡

Also, does somebody know how @Andrew65 is? He hasn't posted for so long...

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TheBookHippie emailed him and I don‘t think she heard anything. I hope he‘s ok! 3mo
Eggs @EadieB reported he‘s okay 3mo

Thank goodness you #Knoph and #NetGalley for providing this #ARC Advance Reading Copy. Expected publication date is November 19, 2024.

5 Stars • This is Murakami‘s first novel in six years. In "The City and Its Uncertain Walls," Haruki Murakami weaves a complex tale of a walled city inhabited by a young man and a girl. The city is guarded by a giant and populated by golden-haired beasts. ⬇️

suvata The girl works in a library collecting old dreams, and the man must enter the city to become a dream reader to find his true self. The story explores themes of separation of body and consciousness, reality and fantasy, and the power of literature. 4mo
Bklover Ooooh, this sounds good!!! 4mo

Road tripping to NYC, my partner and I listened to the tagged Murakami novel. . . and, we hated it. This is my second attempt at reading him (I bailed on IQ84) and I just do.not.get.it! 😳 Honestly it reminded me why I don't read many male authors. 🤷
But I'm in New York City for 5 days and I get to meet up with @sarahbarnes so life is pretty good. 😁

sisilia Hahahaha I have love hate relationship with Murakami 4mo
Ruthiella Enjoy your trip! I‘ve only read Norwegian Wood and it was okay. (edited) 4mo
LeahBergen Enjoy your holiday! Other than Murakami … 😆 4mo

The tagged. A new #HarukiMurakami book is always exciting for me.
It was published in Japan last year, but the German translation (Die Stadt und ihre ungewisse Mauer) just came out at the end of January 2024.
(I'll wait for the paperback before I acquire it, though).
