Wicked is in theaters this weekend: a book that became a Broadway show that is now a movie. Are you excited?!
For #tuesdaytunes today, I'm sharing my favorite stage show adapted into a movie. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock musical about an East German singer who tells the story of her betrayal by a collaborator who used their work to gain fame for himself. Created by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask.
I saw this show live for the first time *just* after my 35th. Sondheim always nails the nuance. His musicals somehow always feel real and the characters feel like friends. 🥺🫶🏻🎶
Celebrated my bday weekend at my happy place (Broadway 💖🫶🏻🎭)
Like so much of Sondheim‘s work - it only grows truer & more ubiquitous with time. It‘s shocking, really.
The fact that this show debuted after his arguably most commercially accessible musical (my fave - Into the Woods) shows the range this man offered us.
Maybe this libretto is a weird choice to crack into this weekend but its subject matter feels more relatable than ever in this divided nation mindset. 🤷🏻♀️
Now I need to look up clips from the original off-Bway cast bc Terry Mann? Victor Garber? Annie Golden? Phew.
Not a lot of reading today because I was seeing a matinee of The Lion King. It‘s been years since I‘d seen the show and the production was just as impressive as the first time. I love the way it uses puppetry to tell the story.
I couldn't choose just three, so I didn't. 😋
Here are four of my favorite musicals:
1. Annie (1982)
2. Little Shop of Horrors (1986)
3. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
4. Hamilton (2015)

#LuckyInLove #Dancing An older coffee table book on Hollywood Musicals . Fun to browse through! Fred & Ginger , classic.
I was in this show and it was beautiful, I think it‘s a better take than the traditional movie
