@Bookwormjillk #NFNovember is a wrap (yesterday)

I was able to finish 7 of my 8 titles, pretty much all of them are well worth the time. Stand outs were The Facemaker and Kolisi's book. Year of the Tiger was fantastic. The rest were very political and I am very tired at the moment on this front.

I am hanging onto Behind the Beautiful Forevers, I know it will be worth it whe I can convince myself to pick it up.

Bookwormjillk I have Behind The Beautiful Forevers on my list too 4w
ChaoticMissAdventures @Bookwormjillk maybe next year .. I have owned it for so long but just keep waffling on reading it. 4w

Pickpick

An important read for Americans. This is my last for #NFNovember (7 of 8) and my 3rd of 4 for #20in4
I learned a lot (Nixon was a Quaker? The meet your husband at the door in Saran wrap was an Evangelical idea b/c they think women are not doing enough to please their men?) a lot I knew but it was good to see in writing laid out (the fueled & imaginary idea/hatred towards Muslims)
I think this is an incredibly important read. 👇

ChaoticMissAdventures There is important information in here about the push and pull of racial relations and how due to the audience Evangelicals have gotten more and more radically racist, and about how Evangelical money and influence has pushed politics to be more and more extreme. @Bookwormjillk @Andrew65 4w

"You are South Africa. Embrace it."
This is not the book for someone who is not a rugby (particularly a Springbok) fan. There are lots of play by plays of games and an assumption that you know the 2019/2024 team (he drops names like nobody's business not really telling you which side). Lucky me I am a massive Bok fan and was easily able to follow.
More than a rugby book though Siya takes us from his childhood poverty - going weeks living on ?

ChaoticMissAdventures Sugar water, his absent parents, his mother's death, and the fact that the first time he slept in a bet he was 13 and granted a scholarship to a boarding school to play sport. More than just a player Siya is a UN ambassador to end gender violence, him and Rachel Kolisi have 2 foundations one for getting resources to the townships of ZA and one that fights Gendered Violence in ZA. He speaks so well about the issues I am impressed. 4w

Pickpick

My last read of #NFNovember and fits so nicely with 2024 being my year of Hamilton (finally watched it on Disney+ in July and quickly became obsessed, watching it live in person when it came to my city on my birthday). This book was interesting - love learning more about the process and Lin‘s notes about each song were fantastic. Love getting into musician‘s brains and he‘s someone I wouldn‘t mind chatting with

#WeeklyForecast

I am making real progress on Tartt I really love the book but it is a slow read.
I started Cantoras since it needs to go back to the library it is lovely. I am almost half into Rise which is really making me want to do nothing but watch rugby! Rise and Jesus and John Wayne are some of my last for #NFNovember. Hoping to finish all 4 of these this week. Then onto December....
