I read the first in this series years ago, and though I enjoyed it, for some reason I never got around to continuing the series. I stumbled across this second in the series when looking for a book for the #SomeplaceHot #FictionalTraveler prompt, and I‘m glad I did. This is delightful, gentle storytelling.

A generous donor to the orphan farm is putting unacceptable conditions on his donations. Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi investigate his reasons. One of the Speedy Motors apprentices is arrested for handling stolen goods. And the ladies get the chance to meet a very famous person.

I did worry just how disappointed Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi were going to be by their special guest.

Mma Ramotswe takes on the case of a farmer whose cattle are being mutilated, and Mma Makutsi prepares for her wedding to Phuti Radiphuti.

I always enjoy visiting Botswana in the company of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Ruthiella I just finished the 9th in this series. It seems Mma Makutsi‘s engagement will be as long as Mma Ramotswe‘s was. 😂 4w

Another gentle and entertaining outing with Mma Ramotswe and co. An adopted woman asks the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency to find her biological family and someone is sending poison pen letters to the agency. Both mysteries are solved with compassion and kindness. ❤️

“And the memory made her humble; for we should not forget what it is to be young and to have ideas and attitudes that may later seem so fanciful.”

Two more books, books 23 & 24 of the series, from the Houston bookstore Murder by the Book. I now only need three books to complete the series

Bookwormjillk That sounds like a fun treasure hunt 5mo

Kristin_Reads I love this series, too! I‘m on #22. I think there‘s 26 total. I started reading this from the very first book when it first came out in the late 90s. I read about one a year but I missed a couple along the way. I‘m hoping to catch up this year! 5mo

“As they left the shop, Mma Ramotswe made amends and told Mma Makutsi that she really thought the blue shoes very beautiful. There was no point in disapproving of a purchase once the deed had been done.”

Mma Makutsi‘s weakness was colorful unusual shoes - it was her trademark 👠

rubyslippersreads I can identify with that. 👠😄 5mo
BooksandCoffee4Me I thought that was me, but I felt so conspicuous in red or green shoes, etc, that I gave them all away. 😂 5mo
