An unusual but very sad read.

In a matter-of-fact voice, we learn the minutiae of Kim Jiyoung‘s life, the constant, cumulative microagressions & inequalities she faces as a girl/woman in South Korea, and pressure/conflict she faces between doing what she needs to do to get by, & setting a precedent/good example for younger women.You never really feel that close to Jiyoung- I felt I knew her sister & team leader better than Jiyoung herself👇🏻

Thanks to lots of good recommendations I hit & surpassed my 2020 reading goal. Lanny was brilliant on audio and I LOVED the nature memoir World Of Wonders.
My #FirstRead2021 was just ok and my #FirstListen2021 was very inspirational

I enjoyed this very short book, but not as much as I thought I would based on others‘ reviews. The book was written in a very unusual style, the reason for which became clear at the end. I still can‘t decide if I wanted that a-ha moment or if I‘d have preferred that understanding throughout.

Well that was probably the quickest #NonBuddyRead I ever participated in😉I think my expectations were overly inflated for this slim book. While it does pack a solid punch and makes lots of really compelling and infuriating observations about modern Korea, it wasn‘t the read I was anticipating. Interesting blend of facts ( told in footnotes) and fiction. Parts of this book reads like a memoir, so I‘m using this for #PoP21 #GenreHybrid 👇🏼

Starting my #FirstRead #NonBuddyRead it‘s a rather slim one...

My last book of 2020 is Kate Mosse‘s The City of Tears. I have 3 hours left to go and it‘s quite epic!

My first book of 2021 will be Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982, with @squirrelbrain and @Cinfhen , who have been so sweet as to declare this a #NonBuddyRead, as I‘m a bit of a disaster with buddy reads. Thank you for putting up with my nonsense, ladies 😘😘😘

I‘d like to finish the 3 books I have in progress before the New Year (top row). There‘s another 10 audio hours of City of Tears though, so I‘m not sure if that‘s possible!

And I haven‘t decided on my first book of the new year, but it‘s likely to be one of the bottom three. I‘m veering towards Sulari Gentill as a short novella, and a safe pair of hands I know I‘ll enjoy.
