#BookReport very late edition

This covers the last 2 weeks. I‘m probably not going to post reviews for the kid‘s books. They were all picks. Although Bad Guys and Olivia will be gifts. I need to post for SH and EIMFHKS.

I enjoyed The Story of An Hour, which I picked up because of @AshleyHoss820 ‘s review. 🙂

AshleyHoss820 Oh, YAY!! That makes me so happy! I'm glad you enjoyed it! So many emotions in such a small story! :) Solid reading month!! 1d
Reggie Did you like Suburban Hell? 12h
Bookzombie @AshleyHoss820 Thanks!! ☺️ 1h
Bookzombie @Reggie I did. It was pretty predictable, but fun. I just posted a review. If you decide to read it, I would say borrow if you can get it from the library. 1h

I apologize for this being a bit late. Life got a little busy at the end of last week.

#bookreport: Finished three books last week; two were a bit of a slog for me and the other one I just had to finish.

#currentlyreading: This week I need to really focus on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, my least favourite book in the series. The other books are a huge maybe, as are the #upcomingreads. Happy reading everyone.⤵️

melissajayne I am planning to start putting up reviews on my blog once again; I haven't done it for over three years. And I am planning on doing affiliate links on the blog, just to earn a little extra money. I am not expecting to make a ton of money, just enough to buy a new book or two or put some money on my Starbucks card. I am going to be realistic about this endeavour and if I get better at it, maybe I will think about doing Patreon at a later date. (edited) 2d

#BookReport Enjoyed my top two books for #SeriesLove23. Finished Adult Assembly early. It was ok. Maus was the winner of the week. I read Tortilla Flat for AuthorAMonth and it was ok. I‘ve started The Red Pony. Loving Stone Blind on audio and enjoying Tales from the Cafe. Haven‘t made much progress in Garden or Black Cake.

#bookreport: I finished Lessons in Chemistry this past week and really liked it; it's my favourite book so far of 2023, but time will tell.

#weeklyforecast: I am planning on getting People and Spare done this week and very possibly the Christopher Morely book. Plum Creek is for the #littlehouse #readalong and I want to get the Trump book completed this week, along with the Agatha Christie book.

Post continues below...

melissajayne #upcomingreads: this is a bit of a doozy. A couple of these I should put in #weeklyforecast, but I don't know if I will get to them. Most of these are #readalongs that I have fallen behind on and the Harry Potter book is for my friends book club that I have been apart of for almost 20 years now. Confederacy is something that I just want to get off the TBR list.

Continued below...
2w
melissajayne I am feeling better, but I am still recovering from my cancer treatments and from a nasty sore throat I got about a month ago. Reading comes in waves for me and sometimes all I can do is read the #littlehouse readalong book. Hope you all have a wonderful week of reading. 2w

Despite being busy with friends & family I had a full reading week 😌Mostly hits but a few were a little disappointing ( Pineapple, Black Cake, Adult Assembly ) Jury is still out on Questions but I really LIKED Hello Beautiful, Love Pamela, Paris Wife, Children of Paradise (from the Women‘s Prize long-list)😍 I enjoyed the Steinbeck and hope to get to Grapes for #AAM

marleed In 2018, I traveled with a bff, to Galveston as she prepped for her son‘s wedding at the end of that week. I‘d snatch moments alone so the family could be together. I spent it walking the downtown and the Long Beach front - The whole time listening to The Paris Wife (before realizing I could up the speed up Libby). I see that cover and I‘m on the Galveston beach dreaming of being an ex-pat in Paris! 2w

As predicted, I finally finished Braiding Sweetgrass. The following day, I went to a forum put on by my old office, and one of the topics was climate change. 😨

I also finished two satisfying mysteries, one in the middle of a new-to-me series and the other a farewell to a great character.

I‘m “working on” Last Chairlift, Violin Conspiracy, and others.

#bookreport

The Close was a good Maeve catch up.
Cold Blooded Liar was the start of a new series and I really enjoyed.
Some Questions- just to slow for me and I bailed.I‘m very impatient with reading at the moment because I have so little time.
Ocean State I‘ve just started so no opinion yet.

Cinfhen I hope you LOVE Ocean State because I REALLY DID but it might feel slow to you. I get what you mean about the Makkai - it‘s VERY DIFFERENT from Great Believers & it does feel like the information is being dispensed at a snails pace🐌 Im also not really a fan of the podcast troupe but for some reason im still interested to find out what happened to Thelia. If the drama teacher killed her I‘ll be annoyed. 2w
TrishB @Cinfhen I‘m enjoying Ocean State- but I love sisters stories- even if the men are never worth it! I think it‘s way too obvious if it‘s the drama teacher- but you never know 🤷‍♀️ 2w

Cinfhen Final thoughts on 3w
Daisey @Cinfhen I thought it was very well written. I liked how it was told from Hadley‘s perspective, but I also appreciated the short bits from Ernest‘s. I loved the parts about The Sun Also Rises, and was amazed they seemed to drink as much in life as was portrayed in that novel. It in no way improved my opinion of Hemingway as a person. 3w
Cinfhen I just started - I love McLain‘s writing style!! Thanks for your input 😊 2w

I was making awesome progress with my reads when I somehow stumbled upon Fauda on Netflix. Anyway since Wednesday I‘ve been binging nonstop! I‘m hooked. Yet, I still managed to read 7 books. I ADORED my MG listen, Ivan and was pleasantly surprised by The chestnut man and NOW I remember how I got to Fauda!!! I went to check out the series on Netflix and Fauda came up as a suggestion😅 Excited for this week‘s #IndependentWomen celebration 🎶

CoffeeAndABook Ok now I have to check out Fauda!! 😃 4w

Dickens and Prince was a really interesting read, but If Women Could Fly (for #independentwomen weekend) was meh!

Exiles and Wintering were two of my favourite books of the year so far. ❤️❤️

I‘m also loving Birnam Wood (about 40% in) and I‘m 3 countries in to Walking the Americas on audio.

Tamra Love the cover art for that edition of Wintering. 💙 4w
vivastory I just added Dickens and Prince to my TBR last night. It sounds great! 4w
Cinfhen I just got a book recommendation for this book but as a preorder… are you reading an ARC?? I‘m glad to hear it‘s holding your interest 4w
See All 12 Comments
squirrelbrain Yes, I‘m reading a #netgalley ARC of Birnam Wood @cinfhen - I think it‘s out early March in the UK. Wintering is a lovely gentle book - highly recommended! 4w
squirrelbrain @vivastory - it was a fascinating read, although I didn‘t know a huge amount about either ‘artist‘, so maybe that helped? 4w
vivastory I know a small amount about both. I don't know if you like music essays but this is one of my favorite reads of the past few years. There's one about Prince's performance at the Superbowl halftime show. It's pretty remarkable 4w
Cinfhen I loved the collection from Abdurraqib @vivastory and that particular essay was one of my favorites. Also the book jacket is SO MEMORABLE - glad to hear the Catton is good, Helen 4w
squirrelbrain Stacking that one Scott @vivastory - thank you! I always liked Prince‘s (well-known) music, but I saw him live at the O2 in London on his 3121 residency (in 2007) and, wow, his physical magnetism was just out of this world, which I‘d never really understood before then. 4w
vivastory @Cinfhen Easily one of my favorite nonfiction book designs 🐺🎧 4w
vivastory @squirrelbrain Wow! That does sound incredible. When I lived in Minneapolis there were so many stories about him. What a legend! 4w

I finished the bottom row this week; really enjoyed the Makkai and My Volcano, bailed on Manhunt.

I just started Walking the Americas whilst audio-ironing today - it works for 7 countries I think! The Hornby appeared in the library and I‘m intrigued by the concept; it‘s quite interesting so far. I‘m still dipping in and out of A Little Life. I haven‘t got to anything traumatic yet; probably why I‘m stalling a bit!

YUP! I finished 11 books this week!! I wasn‘t feel well, so I was home all week clearly not doing much 😉I managed to read 4 / 6 ARCs from my forecast so that was fantastic. Nothing here was 5 star fabulous but I enjoyed most of the books. I kind of fell for the sappy romance books this week and I thought the Yoga Killer & Reef Road were gripping. The new McDaniel was VERY DARK & not easy to get through.

That‘s not to say I didn‘t have a cry or my head swivel when I saw how much (how many books that would be!!) Tried to do my best adulting!! ❤️ 1mo
MicheleinPhilly Ugh. Glad it‘s sorted and I‘m amazed you were still able to read so much! 1mo

LeahBergen Yikes! That IS stressful. 😬 1mo
Megabooks Wow! That must‘ve been rough! 💜 1mo
TrishB @LeahBergen @Megabooks it definitely wasn‘t the best! 1mo
Centique Oh that is stressful! We‘ve had a lot of dramas in the country over the past couple of weeks(storms, floods, landslides), but somehow this area never lost power. It is frightening what a massive difference it makes when you lose power. 😬 I‘m glad it‘s back on, two days is a long time 💕 1mo
TrishB @Centique I‘ve been following the NZ news- glad you‘ve been ok. We realise how dependent we are when things happen. ❤️ 1mo

A good reading week with two more off the TOB23 list. I should finish Severance today on Kindle and will start The Bride Test next, I think. Have a little under 6 hours to go on The Family Roe, not sure what‘s next on audio. Mercury Pictures has mixed reviews but since I like old time Hollywood hoping I will land on the positive side. I dip in and out of the Worsley so hope to finish soon.

Posting from bed because I almost forgot!

I finished Isn‘t It Bromantic? and was very sympathetic towards Vlad and his broken leg.

Nobody else at book club liked The Lost Boys either, so we had a fun discussion!

Making progress with most of the rest.

Cinfhen Isn‘t it fun when everyone at bookclub agrees on disliking a book? It makes you feel validated😂 1mo

I definitely made up for lost time this week, I finished 9 books and I‘m almost done with one more. Lots of NF, which I find I really do enjoy more than fiction. I loved 3 ( Levison, Edwidge & Abby ) and the others were ok, nothing to memorable. Furious Hours is for bookclub and I expect a good discussion. Sometimes rainy weather REALLY DOES have that silver cloud lining ☔️🌈📚I stayed indoors all week & read 😉

Deblovestoread Wow! Reading rock star 🙌🏼 1mo

Looks, like I‘ve read a *lot* this week! 🤔 The top row is those that I finished in the week; the first 3 we‘re OK but I can‘t say I loved any of them, which is a bit disappointing.

The bottom 4 are ongoing. I‘m about a third through My Volcano, which is weird but good. I‘ve only just started the other 3. The Makkai seems to be dark academia and I‘m enjoying it so far, ALL is a re-read and Manhunt is…. 😳

TrishB Good week👍🏻 but always a bit disappointing if you don‘t love something. 1mo
Cinfhen Im super curious about the new Makkai 1mo
squirrelbrain I‘m really enjoying it so far @Cinfhen I‘ve read a bit more this afternoon so I‘m about 20% in now. (edited) 1mo

The Story of Art was fab.
Killing Grounds was ok- but too much fishing and hunting for me.
We all want was really good.
I‘m really enjoying A Tale for the Time Being and hope to actually get a couple of hours to read today!

BarbaraBB Great week! 1mo
julesG Two yellow NF? 1mo

TrishB @julesG We All Want is fiction 😁 not sure I could manage 2 NF in a week! 1mo
julesG Well, it's doable but no fun. My problem with NF is that I read it like I used to read textbooks; I scan what seems interesting and ignore the rest. So I hardly read NF front to back. 1mo
TrishB @julesG my daughters just got this one which sounds interesting. 1mo
TrishB But I have to be in the mood! 1mo

I finished two really good books early this week, but have been floundering since, trying to find something that grabs me. Recipe is good, but I know the story from watching the TV series multiple times, so I keep mentally comparing the two. It‘s distracting. Same with The Distant Echo audiobook. I picked up Come As You Are on impulse. It‘s fine, so far, but not demanding to be finished. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #bookreport

Cinfhen Some weeks are just like that… everything is #MoreMehThanYeah 2mo
julesG Your review made me pick up Finlay Donovan 😁 2mo
DGRachel @julesG you‘ll have to let me know what you think! I enjoyed it and I think I may bail on my current reads and pick up the second one! 2mo

Here‘s my book report from the last two weeks- three I finished before my trip even began. Not much downtime but I did manage to listen to two audios and I read two books. Nothing outstanding but I think I was experiencing sensory overload & my concentration was pretty lax. I have TONS of photos to share but I‘m trying to do so sparingly.

First weekend off in a LONG time, so first #bookreport also in a long time!

It looks like I‘ve read loads, but a lot of them are really short.

Sigh, Gone is one of my faves of the year so far, and I was surprised to enjoy Babel.

The bottom 3 are ongoing; will probably finish Elena today. One True Loves is on audio for #aam, and just started Really Good, Actually, which seems sharply funny so far.

Cinfhen Yay for weekend off!!!! Enjoy 🥳 2mo
