I have so much more I want to read this month, and I thought I had a chance with the three day weekend, but I am stuck on Dead Dead Girls. I am forcing my way through it for LMPBC, but disliking it so much means I‘m not reading anything at all in an attempt to avoid it. Instead, I‘ve been watching new TV shows. I did finish some good audiobooks this week, though, so yay for small wins.

LiteraryinLawrence Oh no! My feeling is that if you don‘t like a book in the LMPBC bunch, you shouldn‘t feel obligated to finish it. I‘ve done that before. Life‘s too short, you know? Just move on! 💗 5h

May has been an EXCELLENT reading month!!! I enjoyed all my reads this week, especially THREE by Valerie Perrin but Bodyguard & How High are both highly recommended. Seven Days was entertaining enough.
While Remote Sympathy is a difficult read, I‘m completely engrossed. Thanks so much for sending it my way @TrishB 😘
I‘m hibernating Devil & Dark Water @Kdgordon88 and I‘ll pick up something else for #NauticalNovel ⚓️❣️

Really liked Ghost, and Eudora too, on audio. The Prince Philip book was good but a bit overlong for me.

The bottom row shows my ongoing books. How High is, of course, for #camplitsy and I‘m loving it so far. Also loving The Guncle. We Own This City is taking a while to get through….it‘s good but sometimes I just don‘t feel like picking it up. However it‘s got pages of index notes so I‘m probably nearer the end than I think! 😁

Cinfhen Guncle is AMAZING especially since some of your other books are quite heavy 🧡 9h

Between a lot of reading last Sunday, a couple of late nights, and spending almost all of today reading, I had a really good week. Murderbot is as awesome as everyone said. I‘m still not sure if I can get through my entire May TBR before the end of the month, but with a 3-day weekend coming, I just might come close. #bookreport

Sea of Tranquillity became available, and I started reading it right away so I can return it early and counterbalance my Libby karma for keeping Prodigal Summer for so long.😆

Making progress on Seeker and Ripley. I also had a nice road trip to the indie store to pick up a book I‘d ordered for a Facebook group read, and I bought a snowball from the stand in the lot.

I read some really wonderful books this week, lots of NF which I seem to enjoy more than fiction 🤷🏼‍♀️I LOVED Walking The Nile, I enjoyed getting to “know” Tiger Woods and the crazy antics that went on behind the scenes at WeWork. Dressmaker of Khartoum Khana was really inspiring and the Maud Newton had potential but just didn‘t work for me on the whole. An Island & American Spy were slightly disappointing.

Bookzombie Great week! I bailed on American Spy. At some point I think I lost interest. (edited) 7d

Not a terrible week, even though most of my reading has been done today. I‘m happy to have finished Mister N finally, and before its publication date. Murderbot is just as delightful as everyone says and I can‘t wait for more Twig. The 87th Precinct novels are about all I can tolerate on audio right now, so I‘m continuing my binge of that series. Slowly plugging away at Tongue‘s Blood and just started Master of Djinn. #bookreport

Didn‘t finish Pulse before book club, but after the meeting I decided to bail. Consensus of the group was that the female MC was poorly written and the story elements not very cohesive.

Meanwhile, I had some unexpected time to stop by the library and picked Travelling Cat Chronicles 😻 which I read over two days.

I had two activities from which to choose today, depending on which one appealed to me more, but they‘ve both been canceled due to the weather!

So instead I will stay inside working on my latest bookcase redo (long story) and watching hockey. Apropos of the Derby, I‘ll probably also go to the library and pick up Pulse from the hold list. I‘m also still waiting for Sea of Tranquility.

I have too many books going now for comfort, so hopefully I can finish a couple this weekend. I did finish a great book (Denver Noir) this week, and two other fun, short reads. Sea of Tranquility was a pick, but only just and I didn‘t love it. Maybe the hype, maybe I peaked at Station Eleven 🤷‍♀️

Tamra I haven‘t read any St. John. Perhaps I‘m afraid the hype will prove a disappointment?? Dystopia isn‘t my go to genre. 3w

TheAromaofBooks @Bookzombie - I have to agree with @DGRachel - there are definitely some things that are a bit “much“ but (sadly) fit within the context of the time they were written. With 55 books the series had its ups and downs (the 80s were a little rough lol) but I found most of them to be great fun and have a huge soft spot for Carella. 2mo

DGRachel @TheAromaofBooks @Bookzombie I love Carella. I seem to recall reading lately that McBain‘s publishers wanted a different character to be the “hero” of the series, so he gave the other character a bigger role in a couple of the early books to appease them and gave Carella back his starring role. 😂 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Early in the series I read an edition that was a reprint and had an afterword by McBain that was SO interesting and he was saying that his original intent was to be about a group of detectives, not any specific one, which meant they could be killed off or whatever, and in this particular book (maybe 2nd or 3rd in the series) he 100% was going to kill Carella and his editor wouldn't let him 😂 2mo
DGRachel @TheAromaofBooks 🤣🤣 Well, I for one am grateful for that editor and then to McBain for changing his mind about how big a role Steve gets to play. 💙 2mo
Bookzombie @DGRachel @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the warning. I‘m still interested in giving them a try. Even though it‘s been decades I do remember Carella. 🙂 2mo

I read more than I realized this week, although 2 audiobooks were each under 6 hours.
I really loved the Matti Friedman book, but I‘m not sure it‘s for everyone and I thought Make God Laugh was phenomenal. Matzah Ball was #braincandy, Fellowship was WORK (🙄) and Proud & Secret were ok. How are we in April??? Also, is Litsy being weird for any of you?? It takes AGES for comments to load!!!

AmandaBlaze For awhile it wasn't accepting my likes. It seems better now. 2mo
DGRachel Yes, comments and notifications have been slow for me, too. 😔 2mo
Bookzombie Sometimes a short audiobook is so nice. 🙂 2mo

Cinfhen Agreed @Bookzombie I much prefer a shorter, quick listen 🎧!!! 2mo
Cinfhen I have a feeling there‘s been NO MAINTENANCE of any kind on Litsy for a VERY LONG TIME @DGRachel @AmandaBlaze 😖so I hope the site can continue to run smoothly 🙏🏼 2mo
DGRachel The last time there was an update was 3 years ago. I don‘t think LibraryThing pays any attention to it unless people complain about issues on Facebook. It makes me sad. 2mo
Cinfhen Yeah @DGRachel ☹️it is sad! 2mo

Loved The Exhibitionist but Will is just an all-round disappointment, isn‘t he?!

Couldn‘t get into Creatures of Passage at all, so bailed.

All my ongoing books are great, but couldn‘t me more different! The Bread the Devil Knead is on the #womensprize long list, I saw a review of Rebel in the paper and the stupa is at Harewood House not far from me at all.

Cinfhen I‘m so disappointed by Will‘s actions - it does change my feelings towards the memoir. 2mo
TrishB What is it with the rich people @Cinfhen @squirrelbrain 2mo
Cinfhen I‘m not really sure what was going through his head @TrishB not sure if it was wealth, celebrity, ego, defending Jada, proving his manhood / whatever it was, it was a TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT & probably career suicide. Incidentally, I watched King Richard on the plane and I thought he was brilliant in the role. It was a GREAT movie. 2mo
TrishB @Cinfhen when you think what other people in the world are going through, none of that stacks up. And the man defending his woman thing drives me mad. I haven‘t seen the film, mainly because I‘m not really a film person! Seems he ruined what should have been his highest professional achievement. 2mo
squirrelbrain It just makes no sense at all, does it? @Cinfhen @TrishB It will be interesting to see what excuses / explanation he comes up with, if any. 2mo
