3.5⭐This says that you may be a princess but to get stuff done, you need to wear pants. That sometimes skirts get in the way and that the job is more important than the fashion. The book rhymes decently. However, the cadence has many places where it switches and or faults. Do I think this is the best book that will be talked about for 20 years? Most likely not. But was it a good effort

Approachable and absorbing social and cultural history. I pulled this off the shelf while reading The Postcard and it turned out to be a great companion read. I went with a combination of audio (good narration) and print (black and white photos throughout).

tpixie Thanks! #europiacollective The Postcard was a moving read! 2y

This is Malek‘s story of using art to cope with the trauma of living in occupied Palestine during more than 50 days of bombing as part of Israel‘s “Operation Protective Edge”. It provides a good framework to discuss fear and loss with children, and also ways to cope through things like art. It breaks my heart to know so many more children are experiencing these same things and more right now, with no relief in sight.

This was in 1940. The behavior of the SS got worse in 1942, when they took over the policing of France from the army. And then, by 1944, populations of villages were sometimes massacred if they were suspected of being part of the Resistance.

This story of subterfuge and political prison during WW2 is a perspective that borders on witty and charming. Not at all what I expect when reading about accounts of that war. These womens‘ clever, bawdy, deeply ironic humor had me dark-laughing time and again.

No matter our awareness or intention, words have more power than we ever give them credit.

@Cinfhen Thanks for sharing this title!

A really fascinating true story of two women, one Jewish the other not, who quietly but passionately defied the Nazi‘s by both creating & distributing anti-Nazi leaflets and by living their lives as step-sisters but in truth were lovers. I found the writing a little dry, but Suzanne Malherbe & Lucy Schwab were completely compelling. Moving from Paris to Jersey hoping to avoid the German occupation, Suzanne & Lucy soon find the Germans 👇🏼

Cinfhen arriving in Jersey. The book contains dozens of photos of both the women & their avant-garde works, which I really enjoyed. Thanks for gifting @trishb 4y
