Not in the way it‘s been weaponized in our culture. And I am relieved yet saddened to see that I am not in the minority here in my response. Gratitude is a beautiful thing, but it is too often used as a cudgel and a gag on the suffering.

I remember borrowing this book from the library but I never had the chance to read it. I‘d forgotten all about it until this prompt came up!

IRL bookclub pick. The ocean IS a brilliant abyss! However, the structure of the book didn‘t work and as a result I won‘t remember much, except for the crabs that eat slimy strings of bacteria, bone eating worms, and the polychaete female who houses dwarf males in her body.
Any reader of this book won‘t need the conservation & preservation message.
I like Soul of an Octopus better than this because the most charming part of Sy‘s books are her anecdotes about her times with the animals. This was more speaking of other folks encounters and while interesting it didn‘t work quite as well for me. That said, there are beautiful photos and plenty of science in here, and if you‘re a cephalopod fan you‘ll probably love it. 🐙

Ocean books are my favorite. This is about the life of marine biologists, Jacques Cousteau and all the ocean exploration she accomplished.
My December #bookspin and #doublespin! Thanks @TheAromaofBooks ! Can‘t believe this is the final round of the year. 📚🧡
