Interesting and so thorough, but too long. Meckler explores the history of integration in Shaker Heights, Ohio through the schools in this community. Chapters focus on individuals, such as teachers and parents, in this suburb of Cleveland to illustrate how racial diversity has affected the town over the years. Admittedly, I didn‘t read much about the book before diving in, but I think the subtitle should mention it‘s all about schools..

I‘ve been working to add more books with girls in sports to my class library, and I‘ve ordered this one to put on the shelf. It‘s absolutely a story of friendship and family and communication. It‘s also about the love of basketball at various levels, from playing as a middle schooler to the complete dedication of college fans to the fun of shooting hoops with your friends.

Another solid Pick! Katie is flawed but with an eerie sense of timing and human nature that helps her do the right thing- she is a complete bad-a$$ and a role model for young Amish women. Being a former Amish and speaking their dialect doesn‘t hurt either

I am loving these Amish mysteries so much. This one too is twisty and riveting. Chief of Police Kate Burkholder grew up Amish and she‘s a perfect fit for keeping the peace in Painters Mill, an Amish community in Ohio

Compelling, heartbreaking, unputdownable. Katie‘s investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident (murder?) between a truck going 80 mph and an Amish horse-driven buggy after dark that kills a dad and 2 children.

4⭐
𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐒⇩
-This one wasn‘t quite as graphic as the first two…but it was still shocking and sad.
-It delves into Kate‘s past a little bit more.
-Tomasetti has managed to endear himself to me somewhat with this one.
-I wish I could have more narrators but since I can‘t at least this narrator does a great job with the narration.
𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒⇩
-The plot got a little awkward…
-It took a while to hook me in.

4⭐The murders in this book are not for the faint of heart. They are graphic, to a sickening extent. I believe this is done to make a significant impact, and it does...but it might be too much for some. We also see a continuation of the budding romance between Kate&John. I'm uncertain about the vibes John was giving off. However, I‘m sure this is a way to extend their love story over several books. The narration by Kathleen McInerney was fantastic.

This 2nd book in the Kate Burkholder series is pretty good. I'd rate it higher if it were a standalone but there's a fair amount of repetition from the first book of both Kate's and John's pasts/the effects on them as they investigate current horrific crimes. And the crimes in this book are truly horrific. It was at times difficult reading. I think I will read the 3rd book at some point in hopes that they won't relate as much to the next crimes.
