Celeste Ng did a FANTASTIC job here. Her character development and story telling are among the best I‘ve ever read. It‘s a wonderfully woven character study about two families from two completely different walks of life who intertwine. I couldn‘t put it down. Book 42 of 2019

Life in pre-Civil War Cincinnati is not very #jolly for Olivia Givens and her family, but it‘s not boring either! After immigrating from Belfast, she deals with the loss of her parents, her brothers‘ quirky personalities, provincial society‘s expectations, the shifting sands of abolition and slavery...and more! Though I‘m tiring a bit of the elderly-woman-looks-back-on-her-life trope, I enjoyed this book. Olivia is great! #hollyjollyreading

ljuliel I just saw this at the library today but didn‘t pick it up. Maybe next time ! 5d

5🌟 #WinterGames #ReadNosedReindeer #TBRRead #HolidayRead @StayCurious @Clwojick
This is an excellent book. The author finds that his Grandfather played Secret Santa during the Great depression, 1933. He advertised in the Canton, OH paper under an alias inviting people to write to him as to their wishes. He handed out $150 in increments of $5 to those he deemed worthy. The letters will touch your heart. This is a book worth reading.

StayCurious Sounds great! +21 6d

I've been MIA alot lately due to my MIL in the hospital off and on so not up to date on everything. I see alot of "points" being given so Im giving myself 100 points for showing up. Lol This book was super cute and a quick read.

Bookzombie I hope your MIL is okay. Yes, there is a game going on with multiple teams. There was one during October too. Welcome back! 1w

I so much wanted to love it – and I did‼️
But to be honest the plot was quite obvious this time. It was not badly made, not really, because I didn‘t see the final twist coming, but overall my first guess of who the criminal is was right. I still love the storytelling and meeting all the characters (Pickles ❤️) I already know again but am not convinced by the case this time. So compared to the first “Kate Burkholder” I encountered, this lost.

ljuliel These books take place near where I‘m from ,so a lot of the towns and last names are places I‘ve heard of. I emailed the author after her first one and asked if she was from here. But nope, she‘s from about 1000 miles from us, but her best friend lives here so she got the idea from visiting our area. She is SO nice and replied right away to my email. Every time a new book comes out, she mails me a handful of bookmarks, plus an appreciation letter 1w
Buechersuechtling @ljuliel You‘re kidding me⁉️😯 (No, of course, you‘re not.) I always thought her places were fictional, too. 🤭 I always wanted to look Painter‘s Mill up but until today ended up never doing it. But I love your story. ❤️ That‘s so nice. Just heart warming‼️🥰 1w
ljuliel Painter‘s Mill isn‘t a real town, to my knowledge , but the other towns mentioned in the books are real ( Millersburg, Kidron, Charm, Marshallville, Shreve , Wooster , etc ). and the last names used are all familiar names in the area . It‘s a huge population of Amish people who live mostly in Holmes County, but are also in Wayne County( where I‘m from). Wooster is where our courthouse is. (edited) 1w

I'm reading the tagged book, and the poem the author quotes struck me as relevant to many of us. I'll be posting review of this Christmas story when done.

This has been my reading spot for #WinterGames so far. It stays pretty shady, even during the hottest times of the day. And there‘s a drink butler! 🍹

This cozy is my only planned break from romances during this trip, although it has the beginning of a relationship hinted at throughout. It was sufficiently twisty to keep my interest without me knowing “whodunnit” three chapters in and I liked the characters enough to download the 2nd book.

Readage Nice!! 1w

It‘s cold outside & I need to go brush the snow off of my car. I‘m not eager to do this so I‘m procrastinating with this “things that keep us warm” photo. Fires should be well-contained, of course!

What are your favorite hot beverage treats? Although I am a coffee drinker, that‘s an act of necessity! I don‘t consider coffee to be a treat. I do especially love to sip chai lattes while reading. Occasionally, I like to drink hot chocolate instead.

tracey38 I love hot chocolate on a cold day. 🙂 1w
