I feel oddly validated when a reading list from someone I respect intersects with my own reading. I felt that way looking at Obama's just-released summer reading list! James and The Ministry of Time? Standouts from my summer reading. The God of the Woods? Just started it last night. Reading Genesis? It's on the side table waiting for an opening in my nonfiction reading. 🙌

This deserved all of the accolades and honors and awards it won. Beautiful book. Great story, fabulous writing, characters with some depth.
A retelling/twist on the Old Testament story of Jacob. It is not his story but that of his only daughter,Dinah. Told from her point of view and it is her life. I love the way Diamant takes this briefly mentioned in the Bible character and creates this entire life for her.
4.5⭐️ badass females all around.

2. My EfM (Education for Ministry) group‘s last meeting of the year—it‘s been such an incredible group this year + we had a delicious potluck dinner!
3. A big library haul brings me joy and stresses me out at the same time 😆
4. A panel from an MG comic my friend is writing—which she shared at our creative writing group this week

BarbaraJean @julieclair I do! It‘s my second year as a mentor. I‘m excited to read the Genesis book—I‘ve read and enjoyed some of Marilynne Robinson‘s fiction but had no idea she‘d written this one! 6mo

julieclair EfM is intriguing to me. A big commitment, but I imagine it is very powerful. 6mo

I didn‘t realize what this was, and if I did, I bet I would have passed. However, I‘m so glad I didn‘t- it was so enjoyable and unique. Robinson processes the meanings of the stories in Genesis in a manner that I rethought the message that i learned about the Old Testament God. Meandering and thoughtful.
