My Darling Girl | Jennifer McMahon

I have never given a Jennifer McMahon book less than a 4, and I am giving this book a 1.... a 1!!! What the heck is going on?? I hated this book. None of the characters were good, was ridiculous, not scary, boring, boring, boring. I fell asleep twice reading this because I was so bored. This trope should not be boring. Just ugh! 1/5

Not usually that crazy about demons, but couldn‘t put this one down. Alison and her brother Ben were abused by their mother as kids, and now that their mom is dying, she has moved in with Alison and her family. What‘s that demon up to? The last fifty pages were page turners with a smash ending.

Cathythoughts Great review 👍🏻 stacked. 1mo
jlhammar I‘m not that crazy about demons either, but enjoyed the heck out of this. Great review! 😆 1mo

0nly 168 pages fortunately. Poor Amanda is possessed by a demon, and slowly over time she becomes something else. Not wasting any more words on this one. Avoid at all cost.

Ruthiella 🤣🤣🤣 I liked this one, but love your review! 2mo
Cathythoughts Oh dear ! The cover looks kind of interesting in a terrifying way 😂 I think I will pass 👍🏻 2mo

A creepy little novella about a woman who gets possessed by a demon. A quick and scary read for a rainy day.

Reggie I always remember the dog who doesn‘t recognize her anymore. I said I didn‘t like it but whenever possession stories come up this is the one I think of. 2mo

“And yet even from this-from evil-there will finally come good in some way; in some way that we may never understand or even see . . . Perhaps evil is the crucible of goodness.”

A #FavoriteQuote from one of @Lin3han #AuldLangSpine list for @monalyisha #Giveaway

I always love this event and appreciate the work that goes into matching us! Still reading Horrorstör (and Fourth Wing, but currently in library hold purgatory because I had to return it)

Lin3han It‘s been a busy month for me but I‘m especially looking forward to digging into the nutrition book you recommended! I‘m trying to eat healthier 🥰 2mo
monalyisha Thanks, @shortsarahrose! I‘m wondering if you intend for this to be your Giveaway entry (or if the quote was just for fun)? 2mo

Finished in time for #AuldLangSpine2024
A good slow build to a thrilling climax (the exorcism of the title). I liked how the novel delved into the psychology of the characters, the mystery aspects (trying to figure out what is happening with Regan/who killed Dennings), and how the banal and the horrific existed side by side. Certainly see some similarities with Rosemary‘s Baby (everyone was obsessed with Satanists in that era 😆) Enjoyably creepy!

Lin3han I‘m so glad you liked it!! The end had me screeching 3mo
shortsarahrose @Lin3han - totally know what you mean about the ending! 3mo

“Early that quietly waiting evening, a young scholastic preparing for the priesthood wandered the grounds of Woodstock Seminary in Maryland. He was searching for a slender, gray-haired old Jesuit. He found him on a pathway, strolling through a grove. He handed him a telegram. His manner serene, the old priest thanked him and then turned to renew his contemplation, to continue his walk through a nature that he loved. . .”

This story of a girl possessed by a demon was a re-read for me. I came across a documentary on the making of the movie, and decided that I needed to visit the novel again. It is an excellent exploration of the faithful and the secular, of grief and guilt, and of good and evil. Most remember the shocking and gruesome bits of the film, but forget the careful building of suspense of the book. This book is not for everyone, but it is well done.

AmyG I read this as a kid and loved it. 3mo
