June 4: Part Three Marius Chapter X Ecce Paris, Ecce Homo:
Thank goodness, I have a nice view or I would‘ve never survived all the flipping back & forth to the notes in back associated with this chapter!
Maybe someday I‘ll catch up with our readings !
This was more painful for me than Waterloo!

48 notes
Pg 530 1 note
Pg 531 22 notes
Pg 532 16 notes
pg 533 9 notes

Plus 6 footnotes

TheBookHippie 🤣🫣😂 It‘s like a chore with rewards. Although the reread I‘m trying to just read it but I‘m flipping to the back often as well! 4d
tpixie @TheBookHippie 😝 yes! I may re- read it so it‘s more flowing. It‘s a very short chapter, but tons of references. 4d

Spending my evening catching up on the #readlesmis read-a-long. Glad to be diving back into this even if I am ankle deep in a many-chapter denunciation of the convent way of life. Oh how Hugo loves his digressions! 😂

TheBookHippie He does love to meander … ♥️🤣 1w
JenlovesJT47 @TheBookHippie he is the king of rabbit trails!!! 😳 which is why I got a tad behind. Catching up tomorrow! 🤞🏻 1w

dabbe @IMASLOWREADER I had tried reading it THREE TIMES before and never could get through it (my translations sucked). Then, @TheBookHippie told me about this translation, and it has made all the difference! Plus, I'm reading with her group #readlesmis. Good to know it's your fave; I'll keep reading on! 😍 2w

#summerreadingbucketlist

Saw this yesterday in the NYT. Anyone gearing up for summer reads? This could be right up your alley. I'm going to give it a try. It'll be fun to see if I can get a book to cross off more than one box. #CampLitsy people?

If anyone posts, I'd love to see it, so give me a tag, too! (@dabbe) 😍

Sharpeipup What are you starting with? 4w
Meshell1313 Ooh fun- thanks for sharing! Love this! I‘m going to give it a go! 4w

Pg 409
The “Collège des Quatre-Nations” (College of Four Nations) in Paris was established in 1661 by Cardinal Mazarin in his will. It was created to educate students from four territories that had recently come under French control through the Treaty of Westphalia (1648) and the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659).
#READLESMIS

tpixie The four “nations” represented were:
1.Alsace
2.Roussillon
3.Artois
4.Pignerol (Pinerolo) – a town in Piedmont, now in Italy

These regions were incorporated into France during the mid-17th century, and the college was intended to integrate elites from these new provinces into French culture and administration.
