Been in a reading slump. Reading makes me feel guilty because of the things I need to do. It‘s more than that this time. I‘m querying agents for my latest manuscript, a crushing experience with more rejection than anything else. That means even reading an amazing book like Vengeful is like salt on the wound. I finally started reading it yesterday, though. It is SO GOOD. What causes your reading slumps? #vengeful #readersblock
Set in a WWI-era America in an alternate world where magic is a branch of science called empirical philosophy or sigilry, & it is a field almost entirely dominated by women. 18yo Robert Weekes is a talented (“for a male”) practitioner with ambitions of serving in the US Sigilry Corps Evac & Rescue Service. But first he‘ll attend all-female Radcliffe as one of a few male students.
[I‘m glad this one survived my #readersblock!!]

I deeply appreciate Moscowitz‘s ability to craft small narratives set in the larger world. In SALT, our narrator is 17yo Indi who has been fighting sea monsters across the Mediterranean with his three siblings (18yo Beleza, 10yo Oscar, & 6yo Zulu) since their parents disappeared on a monster hunt. This book was almost a casualty in my recent #readersblock but I‘m so glad it wasn‘t because it‘s lovely.

I really enjoyed this collection of speculative fiction focusing on the genre‘s intersection with social justice. It was written by activists & authors alike, but with very few exceptions, the work was strong enough that I couldn‘t tell who the not-authors were as I read. (It also broke my #readersblock!! 🙌🏻)

Favorite stories: Black Angel, The Long Memory, Small & Bright, Hollow, Children Who Fly
I have had #readersblock since the beginning of November and it‘s the worst. Three perfectly lovely books, each with an interesting and unique voice.... but I can‘t get myself to read them. It‘s unbearably frustrating.
So. I‘m going to put the stack on hold for a little while and switch gears with this collection of #shortfiction from social justice movements that follows the tradition of one of my all time favorite authors. 🤞🏻 this works!
I picked this one. 📖🍵 #morningread #BOTM
When you can‘t pick a book from your TBR pile... 🤷🏻♀️ Is anyone reading a book right now they‘d really recommend? #readersoflitsy #toberead #decisions #readersblock #random
