In this book, it‘s not #londoncalling to the main characters; it‘s 1950s Australia, where in many cases, #thestreetshavenoname and may be a #roadtonowhere #wanderingjune

Melissa_J Well played! 6y

“Ahead in the dark she noticed a figure illuminated by the sodium-yellow street lights: a bag lady pushing a rusty pram piled with clothes, cardboard, plastic bags- a perennial traveler from here to nowhere.”

Cinfhen Oh wow!!! That‘s pretty darn perfect 💕🙌🏻🏆 6y

There is no #RoadToNowhere when #LondonCalling

In other words, if its set in London, it automatically goes onto my TBR. 😀

#WanderingJune @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen

Crazeedi Ooooo, and its first of a series!!!! This is a stack!! 6y
charl08 Have you come across this one? Cromwell's London. 6y
julesG @charl08 Now I did. 😉 Thanks! 6y

BarbaraBB Set in London? Then I immediately think of 6y
julesG @BarbaraBB Thanks! 6y
Cinfhen Ha!!! I honestly dont enjoy books set in London 🤷‍♀️ 6y
robinb Have you read this one, Julia? 😆 I see London and I‘m there. 2y
julesG @robinb Noooo! It's still on the list though. I read a German book (by a German author) set right after the Great Fire, when the ash was still hot, and that was so historically and culturally inaccurate it put me off the time period for a bit. 2y

#DreadlockHoliday

My weird brain thought, it must be dreadful to encounter a dead body in a locked room while on holiday. Unless you are Hercules Poirot, of course.

#WanderingJune @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen

BarbaraBB I thought at first you were using it for #roadtonowhere 😉 6y

Hopefully it‘s not a #RoadtoNowhere for this Irish immigrant, abolitionist, and 2 slaves in this novel of 19th century America.

BarbaraBB Good one! 6y
Cinfhen These challenges are killing my TBR‼️‼️ another book I‘m curious about 6y

Ever seen the movie Little Monsters, with Fred Savage and Howie Mandel? I always think of that movie when I hear #RoadToNowhere, it played over the climatic chase scene.

Soubhiville Yes! This was a favorite of mine! Along with Drop Dead Fred! 6y
Cinfhen @rohit_sawant here‘s some belated #MayMovieMagic for you 😁 6y

A bit of a stretch but the Burma Railway felt like the road to nowhere while the POWs were building it in WW2. And it says road in the title - so that‘s close enough 😋

I loved this book. I know a number of people disliked the jumps into present and past but I needed those jumps to give my head some space from the POW experience! So many memorable scenes in this, some harrowing, some filled with love.

andrew61 Wonderful choice, and i guess the scene on the bridge years later could fit that category as well. 6y
ReadingEnvy I preferred the love story 🤷‍♂️ 6y
Centique @ReadingEnvy That was my favourite part too, although I really liked the war story as well 6y

Centique @andrew61 I‘m trying to remember the bridge now - is that the fire scene? That‘s the scene that is stuck in my head. 6y
andrew61 @Centique its a while since i read it but it is when he is crossing a bridge and sees his old lover with two children but doesn't speak to her. If im remembeing right im sure i heard the author say he had heard a similar story about a man in Croatia who fails to speak fearing the children are the womans and thinking she has moved on. Apologies if i remembering incorrectly. 6y
Centique @andrew61 oh yes! That‘s right. Such a journey he has been on - almost full circle in figuring out his own heart. 6y
Cinfhen I wanted to love this book but I ended up bailing very early on. I don‘t think I was in the right mood at the time. Maybe I should try again?!? 6y
BarbaraBB I am happy with your recommendation. I have this book on my shelves but heard so many mixed things about it that I never dared trying it. 6y
Centique @Cinfhen I think someday you might like it. When you feel like you don‘t mind quite dramatic shifts between a harsh war story and a lighter love story. 🤞🤞🤞 6y
Centique @BarbaraBB I hope you like it! 🤞🤞 6y
Freespirit For me a brilliant book! The story has stayed with me❤️ 6y

#WanderingJune 🚘
When I hear #RoadToNowhere I think of quirky road trips which makes me think of this book I read & was on a book tour for in 2017. About a road trip where 72-year-old Johnny Ribkins drives all over Florida with his niece Eloise digging up money he buried to pay off his mobster boss & teaching her about the Ribkins family & their unique gifts. Good fun & since it's been a year since I used it for a prompt, I can't resist it. 😆

BarbaraBB Great collage once again 😍 6y
DebinHawaii @BarbaraBB Thank you! 🤗I have missed doing collages for challenges! 6y
Reggie I really liked this book!😁 6y
Cinfhen I‘ve stacked this book because of an @Reggie review!!! Glad to hear you loved the book too, Deb 🥳 6y
DebinHawaii @Reggie @Cinfhen Yes, I reviewed it for a book tour when it came out a couple of years ago & I still think of it fondly. It's quirky & endearing & I'd love it if she wrote more involving the Ribkins family. 🤗📚 6y
