Ninth House | Leigh Bardugo

Pickpick

Magic at Yale! Alex, a druggie who barely survived a murderous rampage, is recruited to go to Yale so that during her spare time she can go undercover at the Ninth House—Lethe. Not because she‘s brilliant but because of her unique ability to see ghosts. Lethe helps the other 8 houses during their ritual magic ceremonies by keeping ghosts at bay, from interfering with the magic. But Alex is a girl from the streets so she approaches her job quite ⬇️

Texreader differently than the other Lethes. She trusts her sixth sense when a murder occurs and when her Lethe mentor disappears. Teaming up with the super-smart Lethe Dawes, a ghost (against all the rules), and a handsome cop, she investigates the murder that eerily has ties to the ghost‘s long-deceased fiancé. Sound complex? It is. And it‘s so so good. I can‘t wait to read book 2, awaiting my hold to come in from Libby. #authoramonth (edited) 3w

“By the time Alex managed to get the blood out of her good wool coat, it was too warm to wear it.”

Spring weather is finally here!! This evening I'm starting Ninth House for #authoramonth while I munch on some aged cheddar cheese on baguette with a side of olives. I'm not really sure if I'll like this book - horror just isn't for me - but I'm going to give it a try.

willaful I'm not much for horror and I really loved it. 3w
Jess861 @willaful That gives me hope 😊! 3w

Thank you @Soubhiville and the #AuthorAMonth readers for introducing me to Leigh Bardugo!

Smart and a little sassy. Dark subjects, dark magic, dark humor. A fun and fast-paced read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Sace I‘m planning to read this one for Author a month too! 4w

I always enjoy a little mystery with my historical romance, although I didn‘t quite feel the chemistry between the two main characters.

2.5⭐️

The book starts with a lot of info dumping. It takes about 200 pages before anything happens. I kept going because I've heard how amazing it was.

For me, it did not improve. There was too much narration, hardly any dialogue, and I was bored.

Catsandbooks Aw sorry you didn't like this one 5mo
PuddleJumper @Catsandbooks I didn't like Six of Crows either so might be the writing style. Enjoyed the TV show though 5mo

Okay read but I'm just not into this sort of book. Not a horror fan. I also kept thinking it copied a movie I'd seen about Skull and Bones (which I also didn't really enjoy very much).

PuddleJumper Just about to start this. I'm not a massive horror fan so I'll see how it goes! 5mo

I bought this book years ago to read at the airport. Sadly, I lost the copy, and the hope is ever find such a unique book ever again. Yet, with luck, I got to reread it! Cantero is a genius. Characters encounter the traditional haunted house inherited. Including visions and those who locate the original instances. Codexes and Help (a good doggo). An epistolary novel to reread for details. Unfolds like the secrets of what is beyond.
